should have specified for posterity, i was referring to the ones from this guy's post...
i tried those exact ones and they were total ****.
Those ones might actually work - I have a pair of similar-design 8" off-road LED light bars and they are like turning on the sun.
Has anyone tried the LED replacement bulbs as a less-expensive drop-in upgrade? Something like this: H4 headlight bulbs conversion kit? I know it's not going to be as nice as a newer reflector/projector style with the hard cutoff, but it's certainly cheaper.

Thanks for the input. I agree with you.
These were the ones that I was talking about evaluating:
Amazon.com: Lantsun® 75w 7inch Round LED Headlight with DRL Hi/lo Beam Phillips Leds for Jeep Wrangler Jk Tj Harley Davidson (1 Pc) 105105: Automotive
Though, I will say, my GF's 2008 Camry has lights that were insufficient, and the poly lens covers were getting diffuse. Her car has non-HID projector housings. So, I popped in one of those cheap $35 fleabay HID kits, run through the projector lens. Have to say, it's not blinding, and has worked better than stock for two years, in a wide range of temperature conditions (-20F to +110F). Surpassed my expectations.

Doubt that was me- can't remember when I've been on Valmont other than the weekend we swapped rides for a bit. I did spot a guards red 924S in the parking lot at Home Depot at 120th and Sheridan on Sunday, though, so let me know if you know who's car that is...
Good to know on the drop-in assemblies, and hopefully we'll see the options continue to improve over time.
I'm waiting for good, non-round options to show up, like the ones that are on the new Jeep Grand Cherokees. It seems as though a person could find a way to cut the right chunks out of the headlight lids and do a fixed-conversion that isn't the same 'bucket under acrylic' thing everyone always does.

I am very impressed with a set of 7" round LED headlights that have not been discussed here previously. I purchased 2 H6024 LED headlights from Superbrightleds.com. I have replaced all of the exterior, all interior, and most instrument panel bulbs with LEDs from this company and I have been satisfied with almost all of the results, so I thought I would give these a try.
7" Round LED Headlight
These are a perfect fit! I did not have to move the headlight adjustment screws or anything else to make them fit. The headlights close with plenty of room in front of them. I checked the measurements closely before I made this purchase. The extra wires are to use them as DRLs also. I did not connect these. I put a lamin-x protective film over them and I did not get a clean install, so you see some haziness from the film.
I drove with them and they are excellent! The high beams are even more fantastic. I still need to verify my headlight aim and take some outside night pictures of them. The high beams are the LEDs on the sides of each bulb (no pictures).

The headlight lens and reflector must be calibrated for the LED. That's why the drop-ins don't work well. It has to be an integrated unit with the lens and reflector all working together to make them correct for the LED.

I rather like the Truck-Lites. I haven't put them in the 944 yet, but here are some pics of them in my W460 with clear Lamin-X:

And the matching four inch fogs with yellow Lamin-X:

And quick video clip from the dashcam when I pulled into a dark neighborhood:

The 944 will get a matching setup.

Honestly, headlights aren't an area where I'd skimp. Courtesy of BL era Lucas electrics, I know all too well the level of pucker one can achieve when ones headlights fail at 2AM during a spirited drive on unlit back roads.
You can get well made/reputable halogens for under $150.
