LED headlight upgrade completed

H4 housings, harness and relays is the way I went as well. Great upgrade! Pattern is a huge improvement and the light output is good even with standard 55W bulbs. I got the housings used from a forum member and bought the harness that RennBay offers:

The rennbay harness that rlets posted is the one to get unless you want to make your own. Its really a lot easier just to by it.
Bulbs: You have a few choices. I've run the stock 55/60's that come with them to decent effect. You can also get a 55/100w an 80/100w and my personal kill mode favorite the 90/130w. Please note anything over the 55/60 is for "off road use only". As always the higher wattage bulbs burn out faster, so i carry a spare 55/60 in the glove box when running the high wattage ones.
As a side note, with the all of the H4 conversion housings, DO NOT WASH THEM WHEN HOT! You will crack them. I got mine by sitting in a car wash line at night with the lights on then spraying them, since i was not moving they got toasty and cracked when the cold water hit them. It was an expensive mistake.

Those are the kinds of mistakes I hate the most!

If I just swap out the stock lights ('82 931) with those 7" e-code Hellas and use the bulbs that come with them (I assume standard 55/60s?) do I really need a relay harness? I did the same procedure on my 928...the lighting improvement is quite significant and there has been no hint of any issues with the stock wiring. Then again, it's not the same car, so I'm sure the wiring is different as well...

OK good to know, thanks. That's really all the lighting I need around here (Fort Lauderdale, unless I head into the Everglades it's so bright even at night super-powerful lighting is just not a benefit).

You need a relay harness regardless of which bulbs or lenses you use.
Even the ancient 1930s sealed beams that come standard on a 944 will double in output with a relay harness. H4 just has a better light pattern.

Interesting. Are you saying I need one because the light output will be better, or because I will melt the wires or blow a fuse? The latter is my immediate concern, although obviously better light output is always welcome.

both, but the harness makes the light out put much better even on stock wattage bulbs.
