Default Valentine 1 Concealed Display W/Pics!

Hi all,

Bought the concealed display for my V1, I was going to mount it on top of the steering column on my late style dash.
Unless anyone else has done somthing more creative they can suggest?

Thanks!

How about monted to the vents just above the odometer reset button? You could reach the control know easier.

Please take pics whatever you do. This mod is on my to do list.

ive seen one mounted in front of the gauges, right behind the glass right in the middle. looked good, that was my plan eventually, unless someone comes up with something that looks better.

It seems kind of deep to fit behind the glass of the gauges.

Mark, It's about and inch and a quarter deep, don't see how I could mount it on the vents.

I may just tack it on right in front of the instrument cluster on the steering column till I can get more creative.

Thanks for the ideas

i've got mine in behind the glass - between the speedo and the tach. will post pics in the a.m....first thing. also - the remote audio control is in a blank panel that i cut and replaced the ash tray with....that way i never touch the main unit that is on the windshield - above the mirror, just to the left of it.

Sam,

I was looking at the instrument cluster and I do think it will fit there. That is the place of choice.
Last time I pulled an instrument cluster it was a non airbag car, and I did not even have to pull the wheel.
Can I get the cluster out without pulling the wheel?

Brian,

Please post those pic's and any advice you may have on the install.
Can you still mute using the main unit with the concealed display?
I have the main unit in the same place.

Thanks!!

my wheel is a momo, so about 6 allen screws and my wheel comes off. I know its possible to do w/o, but if it was me I would take the wheel off, I hate working with odd angles. Keep us updated, that might move itself up on the list of projects to complete...

Mark,

I still plan to do the behind the instrument glass but I do see how it can be mounted above the odo reset, a little to the left. Nice place to mount it.
I may put it there until I get to pulling the cluster out.

Marc,

Have you searched the web? There is a page that showed somebody doing a hidden install in a 986. There are others that put them into the gauges. I assume that they took apart the remote unit. I can't find the links in my Favorites folder.

Where do you guys put the detector itself? I know you are supposed to mount it as high as possible on the windshield but not behind the tint. I cannot decide where to put it so that it is as inconspicuous as possible, while remaining highly effective.

Craig,

I did some searches and found that, but it does me no good since I am installing in a 951 and after that I will probably order one for the 911 as well.

Some of the 986 installs where really sharp, I also like the ///M5 with the V1 intergrated on the rear view mirror.

John,

I have it above the rear view mirror on the left side.
This is probably behind the tint but I see no performance differences from when I have mounted it lower or used it in other cars.
