Since there are no angle cut gears on our cranks driving sprokets, oil pumps or distributors there are really no forces that would make the crank move front to back other than the pressure (pull) of the TO bearing.

Also since the girdle should be sealed to the bottom block surface any movement there should cause failures very early in an engines life.
I've never seen excessive wear on a thrust bearing in a 944 engine...

Now the oil pickup tube seal......that's another story.....;^)

Cant speak to crankwalk but my DSM was running about 21psi (daily) and as much as 24 psi with a list of mods down the floor. That being said it was broken damn near every day. I think I replaced about 4 diffs., lord knows how many driveshafts, clutches, etc. It was WAY too fast but I never got to drive it. It finally met its death when the boost controller failed and it not only blew apart but burnt nearly to the ground in the second lane of a 4 lane road. Man I miss college :>)
