Anyone think about a vq engine? They can be had for very cheap, make good power, and are dead nuts reliable...I've seen many high mile ones out there. Nissan put them in many of their cars, as did Infiniti.

I can steal Andy's VQ35DE when he's sleeping... but I doubt it would fit

Edit: holy crap, that price makes the suggestion worse. You can get a proven Chevy v8 for much less.
I wonder all these torque from V8 will twist body and stress too much rear suspension and gearbox?

we're not talking 570ci big-blocks here...i wouldn't worry about the body.

gearbox...maybe if you're running really sticky tires.

There are plenty of v8 944s and I've never heard of an issue with the body. A 951 transmission is also up to the task.

I can vouch for both of these...my '83 loves the combo!

I've had rental mustangs with that motor and found it quite good. Would be all the better in the lighter, lower-geared porsche.

The 3.0 is an entirely different motor from the 3.7 and 3.5 I think. The best 3.0 Duratec is the one found in the Jag S type I think. Much better flowing heads, more power. Would still be a step backward from the 968 motor. Jag heads may be a good mod for the fusion

An S2000 motor might be great in a light weight 924 conversion. Very durable, high-tech and revvy. I like them.
I like this, it's a high revver and can make upwards of 600hp FI.

Boosting this from the past.
Regarding the OP idea of a Honda V6:
Don't most Honda motors rotate the opposite direction?
Could be embarrassing...

Default Honda V6 swap

Easy... Just mount it backward and drive the torque tube with the crank pulley if there's a mismatch!

Thanks Rogue, good to know. I used to have a Fiat 850 which is a reverse - rotation motor (interesting technical reason as to why) so was always looking at Honda motors in wrecking yards...
