I didn;t want to post this because it can probably be found in the archives, but the search is down. I have come across the following speakers that people have sucessfully used in their cars:
Boston FX 7E
Alpine SPS-4629P
Polk 462's
Blaupunkt's PCxi462 and PCxt462
Infinity 462.1cf Kappa
Kenwood KFC-4625
Eclpise 8463E
Kicker K46's
Which ones of these are known to fit(retaining stock grill) without modification?
How about with modification?
Thanks
Mike

i know that the blaupunkt pcxt462 fit with modification. I didnt like how they look, so i am sending them back to crutchfield. Also, my old speakers sounded better.

Mike,
I used the Kenwoods you listed in the fronts, and the Blau's you listed in the rears. The Kenwoods fit fine with the stock grill, however I did need to use the plastic spacer that came with the Blau's, and place the spacer behind the door panel, to slightly push the panel out, so the stock grill fit flush, with no gaps. It is really not noticable at all, and any generic spacer will work. Sound improvement was 100%, since the paper cones on the old speakers literally disintegrated to dust when I removed them.

I also used the Blaupunkts but had to use the thick spacer that came with the speakers. It will push out the door panel just a little so you can use the original speaker covers, also used the Kenwoods in the rear.

I used the mentioned Alpines, the SPS-4629's, in the fronts. All I had to do was flip over the black inside piece, and they fit fine, with the stock grill, no modifications. And they have a pretty good sound quality too, and although they have blue cones, you can barely see them through the grills. Overall I'd use them again.

I have the Kickers, no modification, but did get a little creative with the spacers that came with them. One faced one way, the other was reverse of that. Only reason for this was because the PO did something to the speaker holes/door coverings that didn't quite match. The grill sits flat against the door and the speaker cones are black. Very easy install.

I went with Audiobahn AS64PQ (a 4" mid and a component tweet in a 4x6 plate). They had the biggest midrange that I could find that would still fit in the hole. I had to use the plastic spacers from the factory blaupunkts, but it fit without any modifications.

What i the maximum depth for the fronts?
For example, could you use somethign like this, http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...=0&cc=01&avf=N ? Is the top mount depth the number you go by for depth?
Thanks
