The button did go in fairly easily on the brake. It pulled up, no clicking.

The headlights worked fine. Sunroof worked fine, hatch as well. Electrical all seems okay which I know is an issue with these.

Good point about getting a PPI first. Might be easier to haggle him down if we can verify there's wear on the belts and whatnot or if the clutch needs replacing soon (seemed okay when I was driving though). How much is the clutch on these anyway (labour included)? 1500?

Thanks again.

Also it rained a bit today and I saw no leaking at all. I still saw drops on the windows so it was outside while it rained.

Bump. Thinking 4500 if the clutch, parking brake, timing belt and water pump (and the rest) are all in good shape and don't need to be replaced for a while.

Okay so electrical is good which is the best part because it's very expensive to fix if it was ((experience)) and check it out first clutch yeah maybe around that price slight more and see if he can budge a lil less I would try 4200 so then at the end it can be at 4500 but get it checked out

I'm thinking 4200 or so as a starting point is good too. Also I found out about a really reputable mechanic (Chris Kirby) who is only like 15 minutes from the seller. Hopefully he can check it out.

come on man... STOP CALLING HIM for 17 days... don't return emails or NUTHIN.

come back on the 18th day....

offer $2,840 Canadian in a sealed envelope and walk.

"it's a nice car, but I found a really good deal on a 996 in Indiana and....

like... where I'm at on this it'll take a price closer to market to convince me to take the 924 too...."

HE'LL THINK you came to your senses and moved on.... he won't have a clue if you're getting just the 911 or there's a chance you get BOTH.

wait him out. go to Tucson and catch some rays.... IT'S A 9-2-4 not a '72 Daytona.

who the f_ck said there's a game clock running on this bucket of bolts and cracking rubber 'n plastic from the Reagan era ?

make that offer and not a pence more.

oh, and get the 996.

Lol I know how to negotiate. I could have had a 2002 Carrera 4 Cab for $19000. But there was an oil leak (plus accident history, though the car drove fine, but still..., it was fishy). I insisted on going lower so I could get the leaks fixed but they found some sucker to take it for higher than $19000.

The market for this car is around $4000 in Canada for a half decent one and this is better than half decent. He just blew 3 grand on a paint job so I don't think he would even think about taking less than that, he'd rather store for winter and sell in spring.

Objectively I'd say the asking is a lot of dough for a 924s. I personally would need paperwork stating that the major bits (belts/WP, transaxle as stated, clutch as mentioned previously, etc) were all recently done for that money.

Subjectively it depends on your situation. Your cash flow, how you plan to use the car, your mechanical skills, your garage situation, and most importantly how you look at it.
Example1: I have a 1982 924 turbo. Kinda dumb car to buy but I did anyway. I looked at it like "How else am I (broke ***) gonna get into a Porsche turbo car for $3500?" So I'm happy with it. I have a garage, tools, and a "real" car for everyday.
Example2: My buddy has a 1965 Corvair Monza convertible. How else is he (slightly less broke *** than me) gonna get into a mid 60's 4 speed convertible for $3500? So he's happy with his car too.

IMO, If I just had to have this car I'd offer 4k tops with some FOES paperwork. There is nothing sexy about it to me.

Also, I don't know jack sh*t about these BMW's, but this M3 looks like a better car for the same money.

Here is another 88 924s. Half the money, but it has dash cracks, dents and some rust. It needs the ac repaired, and the tranny shift linkage needs work. Sounds like if you drop 5k, it will be almost as nice and the one out your way. I do agree. Walk in with 4k cash and be prepared to walk.
As an example for the turbo guys, there is an 87 turbo for sale, needs body work and paint with 200k on the odo.. only $7k. For the S guys, there is an 88 944s mint condition for $11k. Not a lot of selection up here. Probably 1 944 for every 10 in the US.

wow.

1. then, I'd pass on the line altogether or

2. kidnap Ernie [a viable option] or

3. go 911/Coxster as they're plentiful.

My cash flow is fine and I plan to upgrade to a 996 in a few years (this 924S would become my backup car). I have 13k in cash and an unused 15k line of credit (6%). I already own a home. I probably make about 1300 extra cash a month after regular expenses but that will jump to over 1500 a month if I get a raise next year (I'm on a contract right now, already guaranteed a full time job because they really like me though).

The asking is definitely too high. But the appearance of the car is in nearly showroom condition (besides the cracked dash) and mechanically it seems at the very least OKAY and he drove it daily for a while. Anyway, so you're thinking 4000? I really like the car.. I'm thinking start at 4000, if the inspection comes out great I'll set my max at 4500 and walk if he won't come down to it. Another 500 ain't **** to me right now I barely spend my money lol. It'd be worth it to me personally just to get the car, especially one close to me and able to be inspected by a mechanic I actually know and trust.

But if the clutch is almost dead and the timing belt needs work I might just walk (or offer really low, but I don't think he'd go for it).

Suze Orman would crap her depends. "you want to buy a 25 year old sportscar that is 25% or your savings"??? Denied.

Seriously though, don't use the line of credit for anything unless maybe an emergency. F paying 6% to the bank when you get nothing in return from them.
And having a really nice 924 is great and all but it's like having a really nice Yugo, it's interesting but there is very little demand, hence little value. Just like my car!

Trust me when I say I probably have a better grasp on personal finances than the vast majority of the planet haha. I graduated 6 years of university with 0 debt. I don't plan on using my loc unless I am desperate. I'm just saying my financial position is very strong for my age (26) with a 15k security blanket. Even if the car was an absolute lemon it's only a couple months of saving money for me. I don't ever plan on reselling the car so I couldn't care less about resale value. If I did I would definitely be looking at something that's going to appreciate in value.

BAM! Then go for it, just try to make sure it's mechanically sound.
