Reasonable expectations with a $8500-9000 budget
I'm looking at a potential acquisition and have a car I'm currently looking at, but I have also looked around the country, in a general sense, and I'm curious what the guys that currently own and know these cars would expect from this budget. What would you all want for that money??

You could get a mint 944 NA, a well-kept S2, or a very nice and possibly modded 951. Or a nice 951S.
I've seen decent 968s for for $9k...
OR get a nice NA, and 2 parts car

Yeah, you should be able to pull down a fine, fine 944, or a nice 951. I'm not sure you could find a 924 that expensive.
$9k would also buy you a decent 928. Just sayin'...

i did forget, not remembering this wasn't a 951 specific forum, to mention that i'm in the market for a 951. sorry about that guys. i've owned a 928 and recently considered an 89 GT, but i'm now looking towards a 951 and trying to determine the 'sweet spot' that budget might put me in. i know i can find a desperate buyer or someone who just wants a good home for their car, but i was just generally trying to determine what this budget 'should' get me, all things considered. thanks again.

Three Wheelin'
maybe 115k miles
excellent maintenance history
all maintenance up to date (i'm talking belts and maybe pump)
runs very well, shows little to no mechanical issues. consistent quality.
lots of power
nice interior (maybe speakers and stereo)
nice exterior
everything works...sun roof, wipers, headlights, etc
tires should be pretty fresh, considering those are $500 or more

Everybody here believe it or not may have 9 or more invested in their cars well people who love and want their cars running good and might not want to get left stranded one day
I'm not going to say how much I have because I will most likely get messages like your stupid or something but I love my main car and when I have time to start on the other will love it too

9 k will get a decent 951 depending where you are in the country. A good to great 951 will be a bit higher 10-12 in my neck of the woods. Good luck and enjoy. 9 k should be a good runner that drives great.

I've got ~7k into a turbo swapped N/A car. ~60k miles on the motor and LSD tranny. Big turbo, 951 brakes, built fuel system, full suspension, rebuilt front end, huge front mount intercooler, 3" boost pipes, new belts, new spec stage 3 clutch, new aluminum flywheel and pressure plate, rebuilt DME, OEM 18" 996 twists with nearly new tires, lots of custom parts, 951 nose, rear valance, and badge panel, and a clean interior to boot. It runs like the wind.
So you can get a lot for your money if you dont mind pouring an immeasurable amount of blood, sweat, tears, and time into it. Are you looking to go fast on a track, or cruise the streets and look good doing it? The latter will generally cost more. Buying an ugly 951 and turning it into a fast track machine is cheap in comparison.

For the benefit of the poster, this would be almost all in parts as you have done the labor yourself, correct?

Well, everything above the (low) cost of the cars that I combined to make mine, less the value of the bodies and parts I sold off, is parts. I would say I'm still less than 2.5kish deep in parts, including wheels and tires. My brakes and all my running gear is stock 951. So that 2.5kish is my front coilovers, rear T-bars, turbo, fuel system, intercooler and hard pipes, early offset steel arm conversion with new arms, tie rods, ball joints and bushings, my clutch, flywheel and pressure plate, the small parts to rebuild my DME, wheels and tires, Timing and balance belts, offset cam key, and all the small things I've replaced over the years.
