my NA was faster in a dragrace than my friend's manual 95 240SX, for the record. they are very neat cars, eventually he swapped in a blacktop SR20 with a monster turbo and its awesome.

Stock vs. stock, the 944 rapes.
I've had my 944 for about 3 months now and am starting to master the route I take to school >:]
Its a lot nicer to drive than the 240 was, but I'm definitely gonna go for a suspension upgrade soon.

Prior to my 944 I owned a 240sx that I turbo'd and had a some suspension work done to it. I tracked the car once and, for what it was, it performed decent. My 924S just felt so much more planted and at home on the track. The first thing I noticed was how easy and neutral the Porsche felt compared to the nissan, even the when the Porsche was stock. I attribute the difference in handling to a better weight balance in the porsche, the chassis seems more thought out in regard to performance. I always saw the 944/924S as a sports car and the 240sx as a touring car.

I seriously doubt that.
The chains will last longer than the car will. I disassembled 3 SR20DE(T) engines and have inspected the chains of several others (probably 10-20). All of them had over 100k miles and most a lot more. They show no visible wear and are not stretched. Granted, the SR20DE is not the same as the KA24DE, but the chains are from the same source.

he had a very nice example of a 1995 240SX with the KA24DE and a 5-speed and from a stop the 944 was slightly ahead. Same power, almost the same vehicle weight, and I weigh about 90 pounds more than he does.

I read all the pedigree posts, half giggling to myself... then I saw the date and almost laughed out loud..
944_ono... you shall be flogged for bringing this back from the depths... but then I came accross this thread
https://rennlist.com/forums/924-931-...rrible-cl.html
and I really laughed about the "pedigree"
at the end of the day our cars hold the pedigree of a pound puppy about to be put down, noone wants it because of the mange, and that is what it is...
flame on!

After owning two 240sx se's both '96 and one '87 944 na. One died in a car accident (not at fault) and the other has undergone some surgery, I have to say that I can't wait to get my 240 back on the road. And the thing about the ka24de being bulletproof.... well I put three holes in the block from a head gasket failure. Don't get me wrong I enjoy driving my 944. The fact that it says Porsche on it doesn't mean it adds to the cool factor. In the end it's just a car. My initial thought with the 240 was, it's a little over weight and a little under powered. With the 944... it's a lot over weight and a lot underpowered. Factory to factory... the 240 was a little faster but the 944 handled slightly better but not by much. I think a lot had to do with weight distribution and wider tires.(By the way I have transplanted a RB25det into the 240 so power won't be an issue.)

He had my 951 (61-1, tune, Vitesse MAF, full 3" Exhaust, LR DP Wastegate, MBC, Adj FPR, @18lbs) from a stop for about an 1/8th mile then I started pulling on him, everyone on this forum knows 951's were not intended to be drag cars. With the modifications I have it is very difficult to keep the thin 245's from spinning. We did a 30mph roll race too, humbly estimating 5-6 cars ahead of him to a little over 100mph. They are neat cars but Ill always stick with a Porsche.

ive had 2 240sx's a 93 with a sr20 upped to about 350hp and it was fun then i had a '98 240sx with an rb26 swapped with a single t51kai with a dynoed 485hp on pump in moderate street tune ... and id take my 944 over both any day .. though i do love the zenki (95-96) 240sx and will buy one some tme for the rb26 i have had on a stand since i sold my skyline two years ago .... with the 944 unless its the 951 you will never see the pure insanity you can from the nissans for as cheap but well you cannot drive a better made car than the germans can make including the 944 n/a's ... and if you dont really care about the heritage of the car you can always yank out the 2.5 and drop in an ls1 or ls2 and spank the 240's all day long : P

I currently have an 91' 240sx with coilovers, a lsd, strut bars and all that other good stuff, yet when comparing it to my stock NA, the Porsche feels much better and planted, plus the driving position is also way better. 240 is currently for sale if anyone wants to make the comparison themselves
