Exclamation Hit Rev Limiter with APE Stage 2 chips

Two questions.

Where is the rev limiter on a '89 951 eqipped with APE stage 2 chips?

How bad is it to hit this advanced rev limiter?

I'm asking because I totally missed a shift and pinned the limiter for 3
seconds once, and tapped the limiter another time. I know this is very bad
for the engine, but it was a complete error. I typically shift at least
200rpm below redline, usually at about 5500k to 6k. One time the limiter
seemed to be at about 7k, the other time like 7.2k.

My main concern is how bad is this for the engine and for which parts? I would figure the valvetrain, rods and bearings. I'm probably missing a lot of stuff. Also, how does the rev limiter work on our cars? (Is it ignition or fuel system or both?)

The APE chip has a cut off at About 6850-6900 rpm. Around 7200 on the stock VDO gauge.

Factory Tachometer is a little on the conservative side.1

It is a fuel cutoff by the way.

Thanks!
So far the idea that I'm getting is that what I did wasn't horrible, but that it's bad and should obviously never be done again. I'll be much more careful next time.

I hope the car can forgive me, I been bad to it. hehe

it is not bad if there is a load on the engine. at any local autox you will hear rev limiters all day.

The car is plotting its revenge out in the garage even now. "Steering rack? nahh... too gradual... perhaps my fuel pump relay?.."

I'm getting woobley... too many cares, not enough sleep...

951carter, there was no load on the engine. I just really messed up the shift and basically had it floored when it wasn't in gear. I had the windows open and a camaro Z28 with exhaust next to me, so I could barely hear my own engine. From now on I'm definetely driving with the windows closed when driving aggresively, until I get an exhaust anyway.

Thad, It should forgive me after it gets a shiny new timing belt and an alignment on monday. Also shiny new tranny fluid this weekend.

those that are wondering: before I totally messed up the shift...I was even with him up to 60 or so mph where I tried to shift to 3rd. I didn't launch the car, we did a standing start @ 10mph or so.
