Post Strut Bearings????

I have a rattling noise coming from both sides of the car right in the strut area. I only hear it when I go over bumps that make the suspension drop, but not when it compresses (like the back side of a speed bump). It sounds exactly like my 91 GTI when it had bad strut bearings. Now my questions are; Does Porsche call them strut bearings? How much would they cost, whatever they are called? Does anyone make a performance replacement? Like a solid mount with no rubber. Or should I just ditch them and get adjustable camber plates.
As always thanks for the help.

Ryan,
I just changed those while replacing my strut inserts. Called a "strut support bearing'. Part # 94434307100. Cost $33.00ea
at the dealership. Very easy to replace, just a little bit of a pain taking apart the strut assembly. Looks like a hockey puck with a bearing in the center. Mine were very rough and sloppy when hand turning the bearing. Made the steering alot smoother. This is sometimes the cause of the elusive steering wheel shimmy, but it didn't improve my wobble, despite new struts, support bearings, tie rod ends, hub bearings, and tires. Still trying to find that gremlin. Read all of the archives, but does anyone have advice on what definitely ELIMINATED this for them????

Friend of mine did found following some years ago:
After replacing the hole jazz, new tires, several runs of alignments and wheel balancing he waited during the next session of front wheel balancing and actually stayed with it.
He noticed the wheels to be taken off and re-balanced and put back on.
Now the big fun... he had lock nuts, but as most of us only one per wheel. The balancing did not compensate the extra weight of the heavier nut. One compensated the shimmy / wobble was completey gone...

As IceShark once mentioned: it is not the brightest guy in the class that wants a carrer as tire monkey...

Try a wheel balance on the car. These places are hard to come by nowadays but they are still out there. This may also help. I also agree about the locknut, I have seen these cause a little shake.

Question

Went to the Dealer today, to see if they had the strut supports in stock and how much they were. They are $118 each, and of course there not in stock. Now my dilema, for $60 more I can get the adjustable camber plates from Paragon. I know the positves, but does anyone have any negatives. Harsh ride rattles, comes loose? This car is mostly a daily driver with the aspirations of some DE's next year. Thanks for the help.

That's highway robbery, contact Ian at Ian's Euro parts, I believe he has aftermarket ones for $23 or he can get OE ones for like $28. Or there are many companies out there who do make performance adjustable ones, like Huntley, racer's edge and Weltmeister. Huntley's are nice because they are caster adjustable too.

RYAN91S2, I hear that noise is the only drawback.

Ryan91S2, I may be wrong on the price, i was given that price for my '83 and '86 and later models went from a 2 pc. to a 1 pc. construction which includes the flange so that may be where the price difference is. Reffering to my parts PET the part number you need is 951 343 018 03 "suspension strut mounting". I went and checked my part number and it is different. Sorry. Ian should still be able to help you out cheaper, especially if you went aftermarket.
