88 S actually may have had more options (think sport seats were standard?). I know they had ac.

I know, I was talking about the ones that were made w/o all that stuff, it was like the first 324 of'em or something.

Actually the first 324 were loaded as far as I know. My old buddy has one of the first Silver Rose versions. The whole idea was that to reproduce the Cup cars in a top of the line luxurious street-worthy manner. It was basically the same ideal as when Porsche introduced the first 911 Turbos in 1975 (Europe). They had all the goodies and a plaid interior to boot.

I think the cars you are thinking about are the original Cup cars which were much different than the Turbo S's in terms of amenities. They were also around 2500 lbs.

Of course, the real original 951 hotrod was the 924 gtr. That car would pretty much blow any other 951 iteration off the road/track. Does anyone know if this car used a 944 powerplant or the Audi/VW/AMC sourced 924 powerplant?

Info on the 924 CarreraGT and GTR: http://www.porsche.ru/porsches/924carre.htm

Looks like it's still a 924. Personally, my favorite 951 hot-rod has got to be the very original 944GTP car w/400hp:

Don't forget that the list only aplies to stock vehicles, the items that make the turbo and turbo S different, are the first to go when upgrading.

It may be worth a pound or two..the 88 S's had 4 way power seats and the 89's had two..
(or 8 way vs. 4 way, depends how you count it..)
That is a lot of heavy motors.

I hear seat swaps are a good way to loose weight. Anyone want to sell those heavy linen sport seats?

Dan P: Yeah, seat swaps ARE a great way to lose weight off the car. I know from handling my 944 seats they're heavy, I can imagine how stiff leather 8-way adjustable seats must weigh! I wonder if someone w/ the proper skill could take a basic NON-electric 951 seat and break it down, and replace some heavy cumbersome parts with other lighter ones? HRM! If only I had the time and money to do the things my lit'l insignificant mind ponders... I bet one, if in a large enough area could go to a junkyard and scrap up a racing seat out of a car and tear it down as well, and use it's fiberglass or whatnot to cut out and mold to the stock seat's shape, muahahaha.

Danno: you didn't finish the statement on the 944GTP car... it's 400+ horsepower... AND... weighs only 2000 pounds!!! My favorite also... still looking for that ad in original condition.

Seat weights: [precisely measured on my bathroom scale ] 4-way elec = 47lbs, 6-way elec = 49lbs, no-power = 39lbs. All seats were partial leather type. BTW, Sparco Evo2 = 15lbs! ...but, rollbar weighs 50lbs ... so now I'm even.

Interesting...

QUOTE from GTP add:

"And we'll continue to race Porsches for as long as we continue to build Porsches."

There was something lost in the translation from German to English. It should read:

"And we'll continue to race Porsches until we decide to jump on the SUV bandwagon and then all our R&D will go to that and we'll just make the 911 seats more cushy for the rich people who buy them (and sell the Turbo with the automatic option) as long as we continue to build Porsches."
