Post 944 flat-6 swap?

I've heard rumors of someone putting a flat 6 in a 944, i couldn't remember if it was from an older boxster or 911 but i was really curious to see if anyone knew where to find the feed or if anyone knew anything about putting one of those engines in a 944? Thanks guys!

I'm not sure why you would bother. A chevy V8 or turbo swap would be cheaper and better IMHO. leave the flat 6 motors where they belong. Besides they are REALLY wide, I doubt it would fit without some "sheet metal massaging." Even the 928 V8 wont fit past the stock shock towers due to its width and although I havnt measured both motors I'm willing to bet the 911 motor is wider than the 928 V8.

It has been done, I think using a 3.0 or 3.2. Not a boxster engine, it was air cooled. I'll have to hunt for pictures...

The center of gravity on the flat 6 would be nice. The real issue is that ANY flat 6 is stupid expensive compared to the others engine swaps available.

Especially when comparing $$ to performance gained.

As a fan of engine transplants in general, that's fabulous. Oil tank is in place of the glove box. Any idea where these pictures are taken? I don't recognize the paddock but I see two Volvos.

Have you done a v8 swap?

Also, I found a 924 with a flat four swap mounted in the rear. Pics when I get off work.

i was ready to pull the trigger last summer when my mother took ill. during a 5 month period, i stopped working and took to doing a re-design of the front end of my 968 incl./ new paint.... https://rennlist.com/forums/968-foru...-968-a-12.html

on the v8, i'm doing a rather big project (for me) and it just keeps getting bigger, but it hasn't been bad because my 968 engine has been running great throughout the preparations (closing on 190 k miles, averaging more than 600 miles/week); the new engine is a fresh LS7 block with shorter 3.662" ls3 forged crank, rods, pistons (net 388 c.i.), ported heads, etc, almost $17k for the fully dressed engine incl. custom serpentine to keep the Porsche power steering pump, Chevy AC, etc, re-designed oilpan, ceramic headers, fully rebuilt transmission with longer 3-6 gears (200 mph @ 6,200 rpm), lsd, etc...

i'm finally getting over the hump but the swap is passing $35 k.

i was holding the completed engine back as a surprise. closing in.... just a few weeks away.

finally.
