the 150 is for 2?or for each insert its 150?well i can ask him that, thanks

but can you give me a general idea of home much time it took to put the inserts in?also is there any difference between these and the full koni struts? or is it just that the outer casing is different...which doesn't make any difference at all?

last thing...how you like em?

I'm going to do the koni inserts today (I had a stomach flu yesterday, and am still a little woozy, so I decided not to go to class and infect my classmates, but instead I am going to work on my car since I am back to about 75%) as well as degrease my motor and hopefully get the bottom end off the motor and start on the rodbearings. I'll let you know how it goes.

Oh yeah...each insert is $150, which is not bad at all for what you are getting.

$150 per insert, needs two.

[quote]<strong>can you give me a general idea of home much time it took to put the inserts in?<hr></blockquote></strong>

I've been hearing it takes 2-3 hours total. We have a cursory glance at the strut modification, and a separate one for the installation (which will be updated very soon) Here they are:

<a href="http://www.tech-session.com/Paragon/Tech/koni_strutmod_1.htm" target="_blank">Koni strut modification for sealed strut inserts</a>
<a href="http://www.tech-session.com/Paragon/Tech/944_spring_strut_replacement.htm" target="_blank">944 strut replacement</a>

[quote]<strong>also is there any difference between these and the full koni struts? or is it just that the outer casing is different...which doesn't make any difference at all?</strong><hr></blockquote>

The inserts are the same as the discontinued sealed unit, but at a savings of ~$100 per unit. The outer casing is your OE strut casing. One thing you can do while "in there" is paint them the appropriate Koni Yellow to further identify your modification. Everyone knows yellow on race cars is worth at least 5HP per can of paint used The paint is Plastikote T-29 (school bus yellow) Here's a pic of mine which were just done a few weeks ago:

Good Luck!

Yeah, I'd like to see a bigger picture too. I have been wondering how much I can cut off.

Hey, what does "Now with Sparco" mean anyway?

And are those perches the same ones Ground Control sells?

Yup, that's an 86na strut with the perch ground off and the coil-over kit with 400# Hypercoils. No real secret to this, just remove the insert and choose your favorite method of cutting metal. (DON'T leave the strut in the tube when doing this... it gets a bit hot if you're using a grinder) I used a heavy duty Dremel cutting wheel to rough cut off the perch, then an 8" bench grinder (coarse wheel) to knock it down to ~1/3". You only need enough left to have a good seat for the threaded collar to sit on. I will be doing the writeup for this soon, but will get more detailed shots out to you tonight. I've got a rollbar install tonight after work, so it'll be late. They are manufactured by GC, yes.

Now with SPARCO means two things: Paragon recently became a warehouse distributor (WD) for Sparco products. It also means that I now have Sparco Evo2 seats, 6-pt camlock harnesses, and a 383 steering wheel. Surely, more to come later

I installed the Koni's on my car. It was a straight forward install. Should take about 30-45 mins longer than a standard strut replacement. Basically remove the strut assembly from your car (use a spring compressor!!), remove spring, drill a hole in the botom of the strut, drain oil, cut off the the top of strut, pull out guts, clean and file smooth, install new insert, tighten with supplied bolt via previously drilled hole, re-assemble strut and re-install into vehicle. Pretty much it, oh then take for an alignment.
The ride is a bit firmer than stock but offers much more response & control.

400#??are you using this for just the track?isn't 400# incredably stiff??

also are the inserts adjustable like the regular konis?

how about for shocks in the back?do you get the same inserts or do you guys use something else?

Yak! Now I'm reminded that I forgot to post that picture last night... sorry.

Not sure if you were asking me, but the 400# is a bit_harsh on the street, but certainly not unstreetable. My CD player skips a little... kinda like I'm custom mixing my music... though I'm sure Jethro Tull never intended that

All Konis are adjustable... so yes, the inserts are the same as the sealed units.

Most folks go with the 1209S or the 1035S (for early and late cars respectively)

hey Skip i was looking at one of my struts and noticed that the top part of the body is bigger in dia. than it is about 2in below the threaded portion. will this be a problem with the coil over kits that paragon sells? i dont want it to wobble around down at the perch weld.

Yup, that's exactly the way they are. The kit has an O-ring that will keep the coil-over sleeve in place. When I redid mine recently, the O-ring ripped on the way out, so I found a bit more stout one to shove in from the bottom... seems to work a bit better. The kit may receive an updated O-ring soon, though the one provided does certainly work. BTW, I found it easier to push the O-ring into the top of the sleeve after it was seated in position. The instructions say to run it down with the sleeve as you mount it, but that proved to be an art I could not master

Oh, and here are links to the larger pictures of my strut modification (from earlier)... just click the picture to get the fullsize:
