Does anyone here have a 944 that can Chirp going into 3rd? I'm just curious as to how much HP and TQ is required to do so... I've yet to see a 944 that could do that... =)

I'm sure I could chirp my tires in third, ok well not with my present setup, but if I went to pep boys and got some of thier 100,000mile tires, I bet I could chirp them in 5th. Ok, maybe this isn't true either, but i'm betting most of us could chirp those things in 3rd.

mine defenetly does, i am pretty sure anyones can, even i 924 prolly could if you gas it enough

ian you have a 951, not that it matters cuz 944s can do it too but there is still a big difference between the 2. 951 is a sports car, 944 is a step above a minivan

I'm sure everyone can if they go from second to neutral and rev, then pop it in. I was talking about shifting as fast as possible trying to get a good 0-60 time, do you chirp going into third?

Craig, what Ian is saying is correct. Anyone with any car less maybe a Yugo can chirp tires going into 5th if they are sufficient pieces of crap. I run a Yokahama A032R on the track and I can neither chirp them going to second nor have I been able to lock them up under full braking with Hawk Blues. Make sense?

3-Your final comment that visualizes the comparison of a 944 to a minivan is interesting and brings me to a simple conclusion...

You must be a child! This is why your grammatical use of words and spelling is so absurd and why you are comparing mini-vans to Porsches. Try to be an asset to the list rather than another annoying little voice.

Hopefully you are just poking fun at the differences between 944 NA's and Turbos. To
put down a car that is built as well as the 944 series is would be sacreligious (sp).

Anyway, I can't resist correcting Andre's factual error - It's the CAYENNE that's "a step above a minivan." And, what a fantastic name! I wonder if it has "pepper spray" fuel injection. Seen in latest Excellence, t-shirt: "The hell with Le Mans, we're building SUVs." Maybe the madness will end after the damn thing comes out and then maybe they'll actually decide to take the Carrera GT racing....

If what I read in "911 and Porsche World" is true, Porsche cannot race the Carrera GT in FIA because of its chassis configuration (or something along those lines).

Also, the Cayenne appears to me and others to be a development platform for the V8 that Porsche reportedly plan on using in the 928 "replacement". In addition, teh Cayenne could probably be used in motorsports, such as Paris to Dakar and most likely kick some ****.

KLBPorsche, the entire 924/944 series has notoriously bad build quality, especially compared to the rest of the Porsche line from the same era. This is not just my opinion, but that of most of the automotive journalist in the world. Cracked dashs, window tracks that break loose from their welds, over engineered a-arms that fail, oil coolers that fail, and tons of low budget VW switch gear. I really like my car, but you will never hear me rave about the build quality. Thank G-d it isn't a GM or it would have fallen apart by now.

Carerra GT racing - huh, had not heard that. Drat. Whatever the case is, hopefully P. will not stay out factory-level racing for long.

Cayenne - sure, it would be good for P-D, but then again so was the 959. Maybe they could enter it in the Craftsman Truck series or whatever it's called! V8 - yes, hopefully they will do another 928, but honestly I'd rather see the rumored new sub-Boxster/914 type model.

Manning, I disagree with you on the build quality strongly...

I have a 1984 model with 147+k VERY hard driven miles... I've abused the living crap out of this car, specially through my not so wise teenage years, but it's holding up just fine. By abuse I mean getting the car airborne for 20+feet (at over 6-7 feet high too) numerous times with 17 inch rims and 350+lbs springs, or doing doughnuts/practicing sliding manuevers, etc. Hell I've landed the thing on it's tranaxle once on to a big rock on the side of the road... I've put some miles on it at the track too...

To date I have never had to replace anything that broke (and I do mean that) except for a stuck oil pressure relief valve, and a crushed oil pan gasket (that I suspect went due to supporting the engine from the pan more than a few times). Save for the transaxles I've broken, nothing else has ever needed replacing. I tear the car down often, and go over everything, change fluids, tighten bolts, clean everything etc. But I wouldn't be surprised if I had cracks in the chasis by now, but I don't... And mine's not by any sense of the word a piece of crap either. Infact, the people I work with (at a garage) can't believe just how much tighter my car is then the avarage 944 we seem to get, or 911 for that matter!

This is a car, it's made to be driven, you do other things with it, chanses are it's going to break. You're not supposed to dump the clutch to start the car, jump it with a strong charger, disconnect the battery while the car's running, (broken window tracks?) OR SLAM THE DOOR.

I can chirp third often. i have a stock turbo with a authority 2 chip. the trick is i am running a NA tranny for fun. And it is too! FWIW i have chirped third with my turbo tranny too. and i'm not running 100k tires, i have 245/40/17 RE730's
