1984 944NA with an Abaco sensor-- tuning
Well I got into the MAF is better than AFM hype.. and man do I have second thoughts. I mean the numbers were good, it made sense, and the AFM is almost 30 years old now. So I went out and got an Abaco 85mm Quad sensor.
Well the car runs, it just doesn't run.. right.. I get to 3000 RPM very slowly and then it kinda sits there and chuckles. If I put the pedal to the floor it shudders and doesn't accelerate. I'm not a big car guy and I've been learning the ropes on this car. I think I may need to replace injetcors, spark plugs, fuel lines, fuel rail etc.. but I'm pretty sure its the air flow sensor.
So my question is does anyone have one of these that turned out well? should I just sell it to one of the 951 guys and just get a rebuilt AFM? I really want to keep the Abaco sensor because my fuel economy is well.. it hasn't dropped below 30 very often. So it IS working, just not the way it should. I know the car can haul. I mean it hasn't been THAT long since it was driven with the AFM, but it sure isn't doing what I know its capable of.
So long story short, any tips on how to tune the 944? I have the DBX software, its kinda a pain in the ***, but if it means being able to drive my girl again..a couple beers after work are totally worth it!

Check out the "N-Tune"
If it was me I'd buy a used afm for $30 and chuck it on there. What was wrong with your old afm? Did you try rebending the arm?

What year is your car?
What tables/files did you use?
Did you have your intake assembly flow tested first? by Abaco?
I've had experience with setting up an Abaco system and it worked great when set up right. never tried it on a Porsche though but there is no reason why it couldn't be set-up to work with the right files.

V2: I used Lindsey racing's guides, its hooked up and wired in correctly .. err I think.
Reimu: I'm not a fan of the AFM (even though it worked) I did this as an upgrade, my fuel economy is better now What is this N-tune you speak of?
MAGK944: It's an 84, I used file #4 on switch one (provided by Lindsey), and no it would probably be best if I could get Abaco to make the right file for me x) I'd have no problem sending them my old AFM, yeah it still works, and getting the proper files from that. And finally some good news about these Abaco sensors x) I was starting to get worried...

It's really not used on Porsches, we have other systems for the turbo and now the na (search na-tune maf). Custom built by guys who know our cars rather than universal fit systems that are hard to get right.

Also, I like that the Abaco system is all external from the DME, I'm going to chip my DME eventually. I plan on getting a refurbished one from ecudoctors.com as I fried mine trying to get a stubborn window up [please don't ask..] and am now borrowing one from a car I'm 'fixing' for my buddy. Also I think the DBX looks a little better B) but thats just me.

So I'm also on Pelican Parts trying to feel out how to tune these things (yeah I'm going all out on this, three years is enough I want to drive the damn car) and I was told to get a wideband O2 sensor, ok thats cool but I have no clue how to use it or anything like that. Thank you all for being so helpful, I'll have this sorted soon hopefully /:

Hey MAG, one more question, with the Abaco sensor is there software that will let you do 'live' tuning? or am I just stuck with the abaco software? I've got a buddy who is really into tuning and he said to get software that will allow me to modify the ECU. Any suggestions? I'd love to be able to use my laptop to do this xP maybe a standalone?
