Question car hesitates on acceleration

my car surges when i accelerate. I am thinking it is the fuel injectors and i put some chevron techron in the gas tank. I hope this works because it is sure not running right. If you think it might be something else or am I on the right track. If you can help me I could use it. Thanks a lot.

Techron certainly won't hurt. Do the cheap and easy things first. Next thing I'd try is a new set of spark plugs. I fixed a slight hesitation problem by putting in a new set -- nothing fancy, just copper NGK @ $1.50 a pop. May or may not be your problem, but at least you've eliminated one more thing along the way.

One thing I suggest is buy a throttle response camp from Performance parts, they are what's on the S, S2's, that should help some. Also check your idle I fixed a hesitation problem by adjusting my idle correctly. (your rear views can tell you alot they shouldn't vibrate very vigorously). Als0 do what mark said with the spark plugs & check the voltage through that area of the electrical system. I hope this helps, i'm still learning all this myself. =)

thanks I noticed today that it is running much better when the engine is cold. Do any of you know what that would mean?

If it runs OK cold but not when warm, you may have a lean running problem. How long since the O2 sensor was changed? They will often get sluggish/unresponsive when old which could cause your surging.

hmmmm... 951 surges when accelerating... could it be the Turbo kicking in??? Just joking, sure you meant a unfriendly surge, eh?

Good suggestions, plugs/rotor/cap is a good place to start with any car. The throttle response cam does not apply to Turbos... it's already linear. Might look at this being related to the Turbo side of the house... possibly a weak wastegate, bad compressor bypass valve (BOV), or the more common pressure leak... a boot or clamp loose or cracked.

Good Luck! Try to explain the exact problem... like rpm range, WOT or not, gear/speed, etc.... and anything you've already ruled out or replaced.

hey the skip occurs at all rpm's unless i am really light on the gas. It does it in all gears and i replaced the spark plugs and ignition wires, and I cleaned the fuel injectors. The car still does it. I am trying the throttle position sensor next. Hopefully it will work but any advice will still be helpful. Thanks

I have been around these cars for many years now and from your problem description I would have to say the culprit is the O2 sensor. All that you need to do it unplug the connection for it at the firewall. If the car runs better then replace the O2 sensor. $139 @ www.bimmerparts.com. This is a Bosch OE replacement part.

uhm, the Mustang 5.0 part is 19. something - just requires soldering on the Porsche connector.
