Post Did Porsche make Fuchs forged wheels for the 951?

Dumb question, I suppose... just wondering because I'm thinking they may be my lightest, and cheapest (used) alternative for my car. Feedback? Source?

TIA

I purchased my 951 with 16" Fuchs already on it, but I do not know where the previous owner got them.

Fuchs were offered on 944s up through 1986. They never made Fuchs in the newer offset. My '86 came with them as a factory option. They are about the best 16" wheels you can find, the prices though are not cheap, even used. You can find 7x16s pretty cheap, sets of 7s and 8s that came on 86 951s are not too pricey. What I want is a pair of 9x16s for the back and I would run my 8x16s in front. That way I can run 245s in front and 275s in back on the track. 9x16s are selling in the $500 each range if you can find them. There is a full set for sale over in Minnetonka, Bobby Piper has 2 8s and 2 9s silver finished for ~$1500 I think. You do have to have a car with the early offset though.

Could you get around the offset issue with spacers, or would that be moving the wheel the wrong way?

If you want some "Fuchs" for your late offset, I would go through Lindsey racing. They take Fuchs centers, and mount them on custom barrels. You end up with a 17", 3-piece wheel, that looks like something Porsche would make. The weight is unbelievable and the prices are good also, especially if you have a set of fuchs cores to send in.

Hope this helped,
Dave

Spacers would put it the wrong way... but, I believe you can put early offset wheel on late offset cars... it just widens the track by ~30mm (acts as a built-in spacer). Most folks don't do this, as there are better looking wheels in the late model variety. There may be a brake clearance issue with TurboS or M030 944/968 cars. You'd certainly have to use 16" type wheels.

If I have my wheel info correct, 16" Fuchs were made differently for the 951 than they were for the 911. Brake clearance required the inside (hub side) to be shaped differently, and these wheels have a 951 part #, they are rarer and more expensive than 911 wheels.
Having gotten past the above, swapping 16" Fuchs for my stock 15" phonedials made a HUGE difference in the way my NA handles. It must have saved at least 4-5 lbs of unsprung and rotating weight per corner.

HRE I believe also makes custom 3 pc wheels which can utilize the Fuchs pattern center, expensive though.

Using early offset wheels on a late offset car, does this create longevity issues with the wheel bearings, questions about safety when used in a track (DE) setting, and what would be the largest 16" width that would tend to fit? Intended use would be '87 944S (no ABS) [I don't suppose you would want to play with the offset on an ABS car as that may screw up the ABS]

Yeah, I'm really not that fond of how the Fuchs look, to tell the truth, but I thought they would be lighter, they'd be Porsche, and they'd be available used... but it isn't looking good. Just not meant to go on the 951.

Can anybody recommend a wheel that is as strong as a Fuchs, as light as a Fuchs, but will fit my 951?

Thaddeus, again I will plug in the Lindsey's here. The make a wheel that is 3-piece, the center is billet, very strong, and 14pounds ofr a 17X9! At a little over $300 a piece, they are a steal.

I am thinking about getting them, but I am trying to picture what they will look like on my car. I have some forged BBS 3pc right now(7X16 and 8X16) but would like to get more rubber in the future.
