Mark, just strip it for all the parts you can, sell everything and buy another car.
you'll have even more cash.... for your next 944T or 968.
or just swap all the good parts over to a new 944T with a blown motor.
think of all the extra turbo parts you'll have.

Did you wind up with a salvage title? Shouldn't have. Why they want to give you $13,400 for the car and sell it back to you for $1400 is their business.(A business model I still don't get) But determination of what is done with the title is your prerogative. The car does not have to have a salvage title to be totaled. I went through the same thing with Farmers ins., one of the toughest out there, and still came away with a clean title.

NY will give it a salvage title, I would part it out but my 924S taks up the project part of my garage and its down to bare metal right now, if I had the time and patience to sit on the parts I would deffinilty part it out, but I have some sentimental tie to the car and I paid so little for it it seems worth fixing. I almost choked when they told me the pay out!! I've seen much nicer cars total out for A LOT less. I asked the local dealer who they would trust and reccomended me to them, going to check out his work tommarow.

HOLY ****. Lol! Man, you got pretty lucky! Even if you total it and buy it back, you just got windfall, I'm sure you can fix the damage and paint for a couple grand. Depends on body shops in your area though. That's awesome news.

I was recently rear ended back in January. My bumper was toast along with the rear fender. It was buckled. I thought for sure it would get totaled, but it didn't. I was able to get it fixed. I replaced the rear bumper with a fiberglass one to get that smooth look.

What kind of title you wind up with after it's totaled out is dependant on the state. I received a salvage title in California after a total out of $5500 (Progressive will not deal with used parts, only factory parts) I bought it back for $500, fixed it myself, had the state safety inspection, received a salvaged title. Moved to KY, registered it there and it cleaned up the title. I've heard of our cars being totaled out just for having to have a new windshield installed.

In NY ive never had a car total out and come out with a clean title, My agent (Progressive) explained to me that it depends on the area your from, since the only other 951s in a 75 mile radius of my zip code with similar mileage where all in that price bracket, and they didn't go by private sales. I got a qoute from a old friend that runs a body shop for 2500-3000 for full paint and body work and meterials for the whole car itll be around 1500 or so in parts i figure that puts me just north of what i originally paid for the car! but it will have a rebuilt title when all is said and done. I think I'm going to buy her back.

So... What if we get everybody on Rennlist to list their cars on Craigslist, not intending to sell, for crazy high prices, so when somebody totals their car they can see how "high" the value of the cars are

Rennlist members partially have themselves to blame for our own resale prices. The general public assumes the cars are worth more and generally they do bring more money outside "the community".
NADA Average retail for my 924s is ~6k and high is over 8k. I would be criticized for listing at $7000, but the fact is, that is a market based price.

When I was with progressive I looked at getting stated value insurance and I think they already had the car valued at 6.5-7. Granted, that was a number of years ago. I would expect to get around 5 based off what I've seen lately, but that (and what you got) is still better than the 2.5-3k 924s go for here.
