Post Boxter Vs 944

I can't recall which boxter is it that runs a 6.1 0-60, and would you happen to know how fast they'd get to 100 from 35MPH?? I had an experience yesterday night and was just wondering if I stood a chance...

Just the Boxster, not the S. According to a lot of sources the boxsters 0-60 is about 6.1. I raced a boxster the other night and lets just say that I was pleased with the results. My car has more horse and torque, 12 years old and is a 4 banger

You don't, and it is Boxster, not Boxter. If you had a 968 or maybe a 944S2, you would probably be pretty well matched.

The Boxster is about 6.4, I'm sure 6.1 has been accomplished. http://us.porsche.com/national/model...ta/default.htm

The Boxster S is about 5.7, 5.9 if you go to 62 mph according to Porsche's 0-100 kph time. I'm sure that's a bit conservative. http://www.us.porsche.com/english/bo...rs/default.htm

Both of those are with manuals. Which begs the question - for an additional 20 grand you get .4 seconds off your time? One may as well get a Boxster then have an aftermarket company supercharge it or something. Is that doable?

Hey I was at the light today in my 914-4. In the lane next to me was a Diablo!!! He wouldn't race me (probably was scared or maybe just didn't see I was in a Porsche) but do you think I would have smoked him or what?????

hehe

As much as Craig gets ridiculed for posting threads like this one, he sure can start a good arguement. Think I'll sit back and watch the replies roll in.

Wrong Wrong Wrong. For $10k, you get an extra gear, bigger brakes, and more standard features. You also get a transmission that can take the power. The Boxster transmission is not meant to be supercharged. It shares important parts with the VW parts bin.

As a former Boxster owner and current 944-er (guess I have a thing for those water cooled P-cars), let me chime in......

No way can a 944 NA hang with either the boxster (986) or the 986S. Even if the 944 is modified. A stock 951 is probably close to a 986 (but not the 986S)in the straights, but will get smoked in the twisties. The power bands in the Boxsters are a bit smoother than the 951 given the lack of turbo-spool-up issue.

However, A somewhat modified 951 can smoke both a 986 or 986S both on the straights and the twisties. Although, the box/boxS suspension is SO SWEET even right off the lot with 0 mods, and they are so neutral which = VERY easy to drive, they are really hard to keep up with in the corners. As an example, on one of Houston's few twisty roads, I could keep up with my friend's 996 pretty easily even when driving way faster than we should have been, even though I was giving up 100 hp to his 996.

YMMV, and I have not proved this via actual races (986 v 944/951), but 2+ years in each car (plus many miles in a good friend's 986S) makes me pretty certain about my findings.

Sorry to "validate" this thread by posting , but thought some real-world experience would be a bonus

The Boxster S is about 5.7, 5.9 if you go to 62 mph according to Porsche's 0-100 kph time. I'm sure that's a bit conservative.
The S2 is quoted by Porsche of a 0-60 of 6.9 seconds, but Michael Cottons book "Porsche 924,944,968" quotes two auto mags. that acheived 0-60 times of 6.0 for the S2. Indeed, the S2 has better times below 100 mph than the 968 and within .1 seconds of the Turbo (non-S) to 80 mph.

Note, however, that the same book shows that the S2 gets its a** kicked by the 968 and 951 at higher speeds.

Therefore, I think the above quote stating that Porsche's 0-60 time for the Boxster are conservative is valid.

I don't know about all that, all I know is...

I pass A LOT of Boxsters at the track, even with my modest 158hp stock '88 on street tires. Aren't the Boxsters supposed to handle like go-karts?

TXHEDG,

Where are you from in Houston? I grew up in Clear Lake area. I miss Houston but am really enjoying living in the Porsche homeland. The driving is awesome here in Germany. Just today on the Autobahn I got burned by a Carrera 4S...it was awesome..
