It's been quite a while, still lurked here and there. Just have not posted in a long, long, long time.
I have beaten this poor thing almost to a certain death, and now it is time to ressurect it.
I have my 86 944 that I bought about 4 years ago as a replacement to the black car that was totaled. I now leaks oil so bad that I'm afraid it will catch fire and burn. So up on jack stands it goes.
Pull trans, replace fluid. Replace clutch, rebuild motor, re-upholster seats, clean carpet. Repair suspension, replace worn out parts there as well.
Last, hopefully paint.
Pics to come

Best wishes! I'm glad to hear more 944s being restored especially as there are a lot of beat up ones out there.

Intake is off, fuel rail off, altenator off. Going to need swaybar bushings as well. LOL. I guess the oil leaks are pretty bad afterall. Exhaust pipe is off. The good news in most of this so far at least. Is that I have not broken any electrical connectors.
Going to start on transmission and gear shift linkage this weekend. Maybe get that greasy lump on the ground.
Has anyone ever thought about recovering the top of the dash in alcantra?
Interior guy at work says he can redye the bottom of the tan dash, where the stupid glue turns brown from the sun.

Kevin, you and I are on the same path. I bought my car on ebay in Santa Fe and drove it fearlessly back to SW Florida. As in almost all 944's of this vintage, the rubber seals harden and leak. If one is leaking, the rest soon will. So, since you're at this juncture, I'd heartily recommend replacing all rubber seals, including balance shafts, front and rear crankshaft seals, AOS, camshaft and the throttle body shaft seals (yes they're tiny rubber things that will cause vacuum leaks at the throttle body). Replace the vacuum lines, too, since you have access to the ISV and the t-fitting on the bottom of the j-boot.
Another thing I recommend while you have the tranny out, go to "online944.com" and buy his short shifter ($80). You won't believe how much better the shifter is when this beauty is installed. It's awesome. If you want to wait a while, it's still an easy replacement when the cars running again. Only takes about 1/2 hour.

Ok. I'd really like to meet the person who keeps leaving these boxes of parts at my door. New clutch arrived today, intake boot, isv boots, other misc stuff. As the list of stuff that arrives, the list of parts I find that I need to replace seems to grow. Its a little like a dog chasing its tail. I get stuff, I find more stuff I need.
Took the rack out, need both powersteering hoses, need inner tie rod ends, rack bushings. Found a place local that will rebuild the rack and test it for a reasonable price.
Disconnected the shifter from inside the car, bushing worn out. It was a little like a mop handle in a bucket, so no real surprise there. Other end of shifter is typical previous owner stuff. Who in the world safety wires the shift rod to the shifter?
Took the incorrect spark plugs out of the head, took the belts off took the timing cover off, low and behold, timing is off by one tooth. Not like I have never seen that but....
Here's to tomorrow's Pelican parts or Autohaus AZ order to be placed tomorrow.

No idea. We bought that car off Phil three years ago. To say it's been on the back burner would imply it's been on the stove at all, and that's not really the case. Though the pile of parts for it has grown consistently in my garage over the past year.
