Can someone explain how this can happen. On my way to work this morning, I turned on my G-Tech for the 2 short sections of highway, imagine my suprise when the unit read 6.19. I figured right away that there was some sort of error, and reset the unit for the second run. This time was a little more realistic, 6.30. With no new mods, let alone major mods, there is no way my NA is really doing these times. Can a G-Tech go out of calibration? Has anyone heard of this? Or did gravity switch directions this morning?

These were your 0-60 times?
Were you completely stopped?
Does the car 'feel' that fast? (comparing it to maybe anotyer car you've driven in that ran a similar posted time)(

Yep, dead stopped.
Correct again, 0-60, now you get where I'm going with this.
It felt like a quick run, but no quicker than my previous best. Normal would be 6.9 to 7.05, depending on conditions. Today was on the cool side, but not enough to account for 3/4 second.

are you guys "zero-ing" it out before you take off? it needs to read 0.00 before you go. maybe porsche just advertised these cars as being 1-2 sec slower 0-60 than they really are, uh, i doubt it.

Carter, yes I zero it.
The '83's are faster than the '86's and such, 'nuff said. It's alot damn lighter. You ride in it w/ me then ride in an '86 or something you can tell the difference.

You were probably on a grade.. if the ground isn't completely flat you need to make a run in both directions and average the two. You're right, there's no way your NA is really doing those times
. If you left the unit in the sun it's possible that the gunk the g-sensor is suspended in was affected and is no reading incorrectly.

Craig, Yeah, I'm the one. 65-68 Deg. that morning. I've been thru the mods a few times on this board.
Carter, 0.0 then -GO-, I've heard that ALL Porsches are quicker than advertised, a few tenths usually. I don't claim to understand the concept, but I've heard that Porsche rates HP, torque and other performance figures conservativly.
Craig, again, Check the FAQ for weight info. You'll find the 86 is lighter than the 83.
Macabre, The first run was on Rt 22 West, Second was Rt 22 East, Avg. is 6.25. According to my 7 1/2 min map the area is flat. The car was in the shade until 6:50 AM, this was at 7:05 and 7:07. I am thinking along the same lines that there is an internal issue with the unit. My object with this thread was to find out if anyone had had any problems with a G-tech unit before. No? Anyone?

I don't see how anything could be lighter than an '83. Powersteering, ABS, Anti Lock brakes, all add weight. Besides my 83 is lighter than stock by a good bit. We've done some weight loss stuff to it, along with the paint.

Introduced in the US as a 1983 model. These early cars are lighter than the later cars. The interior is a transplant from the 924. These cars were largely based on the 924 Turbo in that the maintained basically the same body (except for the larger wheel arches), the ventilated brake discs, and suspension. The 5-speed gearbox was an Audi transplant, while the automatic was from VW.

Craig - How many 86 944's have you weighed personally? If the answer is zero, how can you possibly say your car is lighter than something you haven't compared it to? The FAQ quotes factory delivered weights - the numbers are accurate, at least on average.
What did you remove to save weight?

I don't recall claiming mine was lighter... Hahah but 'ok' thanks for the lesson. I really don't care, I don't care about anything I'm a carefree person... lalalalalala!
