How can you give congrats before the OP created the thread? I have seen this a couple of time now on other threads.

Attention Admin!! Something is wrong with your database or app.

Oh, nice car by the way. 83's are the best. Yes, attend to the timing belt ASAP. Assume that anything that isn't documented hasn't been done.

Default The saga of my first Porsche, starts now.

Good afternoon. I just wanted to introduce myself and my new-to-me, and first ever to me, Porsche. It's a 1983 944 in relatively good shape for the age. The interior is pretty mint, with exception of the dash which is riddled with cracks. Most of the electrics are working, but I sense some cleaning of the grounds will hopefully rectify those that aren't (interior light, parking brake switch, license plate lights, mirrors). The outside is in great shape for a 30 year old car, with a few dings here and there. Unfortunatley, the biggest drawback is a total lack of records, so while it runs great, I will have to assume it needs things like a timing belt change.

Any way, here are a few pictures....

Brian

I was looking for a weekend/project/summer car for about a year. I bounced between different european makes/models trying to decide which to get, and which would pop on craigslist. I saw a few 944's but most were in pretty dire straights. This one has 109k miles on it. You can tell the previous owner took very good care of it. There's a few small electrical things that I think a good ground cleaning will take care of, and a really heavy musty smell. It hasn't rained here yet so I can't comment if there's a leak, but I am venturing it's a good guess.

Aside from that it runs fairly well. The only comment I have is that it seems run a bit hotter in traffic. Is that normal? I'm not used to having gauges that actually give real readings versus newer cars and their static readings that rarely ever move. Also, it could be my gauge, or the sender, or the grounds, but if my gas gauge reading has been right, I must be getting pitful gas mileage. So I need to fix those few things.

Oh, and also there's no parking brake. Well, it's there, but it won't "click" and stay in up position. I ordered a used unit in hopes to scavange whatever parts are missing/broken.

Looks great, love the colour and the fuchs
fuel gauges in these cars are never right but they have a low fuel light that works properly, so if your has that, dont worry too much about fuel gauge.
Mirrors in my car didn't work and it was the switch in the door used to set them. replaced that and they work again. Defiantly do the timing belts and a proper service so you are back on track maintenance wise, and then it's just a matter of doing small jobs like replacing suspension rubber etc and slowly bringing her back to spec.
peace

Welcome and congrats. 1983 is a good year for these (light and simple). Cleaning and checking your ground wires and points will help with the instruments (temp, oil pressure and fuel gauge) indicate accurately and not over read. But it's best to double check your cooling system and make sure the car is not really running hot.
