Post Group buy...Factory Repair manuals

We'd all like to have a set of factory repair manuals...but at $340 or so for the 6 volume 924/944 set and Turbo volume, it's quite pricey. I often see the Turbo volume for sale on ebay on CD for $50 or so, but never the full 6 volume set.

I propose that one person scans the 7 volumes into the computer (I guess acrobat form would work, right?) and then distribute them to us, for whatever amount he thinks is reasonable. This would be easiest for someone with a page feeder for their scanner.

Do I have any interested people? (either for selling or buying) I'm obviously interested on the buying side of things.

Posting that on a public forum may not be the smartest idea.. I'm no lawyer, but it seems like that would be copyright infringement.

Anywho, I went the "easy" route and got the manuals on microfiche. Spent $30 on a reader on ebay and I'm set.. I think the manuals were about $27 in that format. Lots of great spec information in them besides the repair stuff, by the way.

You may even be able to go to your local library and use a microfiche printer to make a paper copy from the fiche for around a dime a page.

and some unscrupulous individual was selling an acrobat-formatted CD of the same on ebay...

I, myself, won't partake in questionnable products, but if you buy one, drop me an email.

Bad news all, Pelican's site lists the manuals (vol 1-6) as NLA on microfiche.

Anyone got another source?

There are countries that do not have Copyright agreements signed with certain countries (I think the US and Germany would be prevailant here).

You just need to find one, and have someone in that country do the deed, and post it on an FTP server.

Actually, they have the 944 set for $224.41, the 951 suplament for $59.84, the 924 Set for $187.01, the 931 suplament for $59.84, and the 968 set for $246.22.

Paragon-Products has them all for the exact same prices, accept for the 968 set which is only $205.20.

Just FYI, for those who wonder: PCNA sometimes prosecutes here in the US on behalf of Porsche AG. You can be sure they (rather, their pod of attourneys) will contact you quite shortly after such an endeavor. Just ask Phil Davies, PETmaster.

Good Luck! You'll need it!
