Default Trunk lid doesnt open...

Hello,

i tried to open my trunk this morning but i didnt work.I only heard that e-motor whining....no mechanical function whatsoever.

My car is a 944S2 Cabriolet with LPG system. The LPG tank is right behind the foldeable rearseats....so no space to get to the trunk lock mechanism from there.

Has anybody a idea what to to? I new that Boxsters have a steel cable that leeds to the rearwheel arch to open the lid in case of a failure.Do the 944`s have a thing like that?

regards,

Nobbi

As far as I know, there's no backup cable. You tried the key, right?

That tank may be your doom, the back up if the key doesn't work is usually to crawl back to the mech and open it from inside. In the boxster you can't do that so they give you the cable.

I had the little nut that connects to the cable snap. Not sure how you can get to it without being able to climb back there, though.

I'm not sure if it's doable, as I'm running off a very fuzzy recollection, but I believe you can open the hatch from within the tail light holes.

Unfortunately, you probably can't remove the tail lights without opening the hatch.

Yep, I had to open mine via the tail light holes yesterday. However, you need to remove six nuts per light from the inside to get the lights out... I was fooling around with mine while removing stuff for paint and shut it with the cylinder loose so neither key nor motor would work. Luckily I already had the lights out, otherwise I would have needed to crawl back there.

Side note that's partially relevant - I can use my key if the right side of the hatch is shut but not if both sides are shut. I feel resistance on the first turn but it doesn't free the left side and it'll turn freely after that. The motor with open it just fine and I can see that the key cylinder is catching on what it's supposed to catch if the hatch is open. Any ideas?

According to the owners manual there's a backup cable.

the 968 has an actual cable pull handle clamped to the hatch release cable.

Not much of a backup cable when it's the same cable the motor pulls in my opinion. It would still require getting into that area though.

I'm headed to class now. I'll get photos of that area and see if there's a way to get into there from the outside.

Edit: I looked, but I honestly see no way of getting in from the outside. The lights need to be removed from the inside and underneath is completely sealed.

Ladies and Gentleman,

the trunk is open! The idea came by reading the "Get through the rear light" theme.Solution: Destroy the left Licence illumiation light, get an endoscope, check situation. In my case the hook from the release cable was detached. So i got me a piece of wire, formed a loop and opened the trunk.

Well, i wonder what a new light will cost but it was worth it anyway.....

Can this be retrofitted into a 944?
