Red face KEYED

Well yesterday after work someone thought it would be funny to run there key from my passenger side front fender across my hood to and stoping at the drivers side fender. I have full coverage with $100 deductable. However I'm curious what this is going to cost to fix. I'm very paranoid when it comes to paint and want it done right and to look factory as it did before. My car has 48k miles on it now so it was pretty prestine before this happened. Anybody know any good body shop between the Grand Rapids MI area and Toledo Ohio area? I never filed a insurance claim before so how does this work? I already have the police report and my agency told me to get estimates. So do I just give them the highest estimate and they send me a check?

that's horrible man. I'm really sorry to hear that. Here's to fresh paint <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" /> I just hate leaving a vehicle at a shop.

I used to work at a bump shop and saw an Avenger that somebody scratched the word "B*tch" in, the decided to walk around the car 4 or 5 times with a key.

I think to prep, paint, and buff one side would be close to $1500 to $2500.

My friends car got keyed by his exgirlfriend. He didn't have the money to get it fixed so he had a guy make a small vinal sign that said,"Thanks b!tch" and pointed to the scratch.

Sorry to hear this. You need to check the archive to see if you have the one pack or two pack paint system. There was a very good repaint discussion a while back.

People that key cars should be shot dead on sight. If you have a beef with the owner take it up with him/her. Keying a car is like killing an innocent puppy because you hate the owner. I guess you probably know where I stand on the death penalty. LOL!

Have Casull .454, will travel.

Whew.. that sucks. You may have a hard time getting someone to match the paint. 13 Year old paint is hard to work with. If the insurance will pay.. get the whole thing done.

The downside that a factory looking job (done right, all moulding and glass removed, could take a month) is about $6000. There is a very good shop here in Cinci if you wanted to drive. Let me know if you want the info.

Dan,

For what it's worth, as bad as some of the guys have had it lately, at least nothing REALLY bad(mechanical) happened. I know it totally sucks and I hope that the jerk-off that did it gets his Drano confused with his Scope tomorrow morning.

Anyway, it's a one-pack paint system, call the local dealership, tell them what happened, and ask who they recommend. The body shop will help you with the paperwork and probably help arrange for a rental car.

Keep your chin up, it's still a better car keyed than any other you'll see and she'll be ok in a week or so!!

The car has been garaged its intire life as well as only having 48k miles on it. The factory paint still is very shiny and looks new, so I don't think the paint matching should be to much trouble. My car has the factory non-metalic black paint. Perry where is this shop located? How far is it from my place?
Thanks for all the kind words, its shocking how people act sometimes. Jelious loosers with no heart.. are my .02 cents. Who would want to destroy such a beautiful car?

i remember this happening a couple years ago when my bro had a new toyota truck. we actually saw the guy do it (completely random act of violence) and chased after him down the street. when we got to him we pounded him but not before other people started to get into the fight thinking that we were beating an innocent guy. we screamed and yelled then i told my bro, "split" and not more than 30 sec. later, the cops came but didn't recognize us as we had walked quite a bit up the street. what a ****in' loser, that dude should have had his head knocked in, but we couldn't finish the job fast enough before other completely random people started in on us! ****! bad memories.

He is about 5 miles from my place in Downtown Cinci. It would be a drive for you.. but he is the best I have seen.

His shop is called Dave Orr's Auto Body. He does most of the Porsche work for the dealers here. I'll get the number and address in the morning if you need it.

Thanks Terry and Rennlisters,
This must have been the first time in ruffly 3 years that I shed a tear when I saw my beautiful black brother scratched like that. An open wound that won't heal on its own. Well when spring break comes I'm gonna have to put that 200k 951 back together completly as I had trouble with it not starting that last attempt. Yes I do wish that would have least scratched the 200k 951. Maybe this will work out in my favor?

i hate jealous people....i had my car keyed in highschool and i had to get the whole car repainted...I knew who did it but couldn't prove it....

BUT...He left his car behind target one time over where i live and I busted all his windows with a baseball bat, threw a bottle of vodka with a lit rag in his interior and waited 10 seconds...then put it out with the extinguisher i keep inside my car and walked away..
What cost me only 800 dollars to fix (complete repaint) cost him over 4000 dollars in new uppholstry, windows, door panels, carpeting, gauge cluster, and a towing bill seeing that he couldn't get his car out of gear cuz the fire melted the shifter

I do not agree with personal vengence but i strongly believe that there must be a consequence for everyone's actions or this world would be a much worse off place.
