Default How Many U.S. 924 S's Left?

Just got a 88 924S in February. It was one owner, with all records and 52,000 miles. Feel quite lucky to find. Good mechanical shape as PO had recent timing belt change and new fuel lines.

Turning it into track (DE)/daily driver car and have put Konis on back and Momo steering wheel and lightened it by 175lbs.

Question: Anyone have a guess as to how many 88 924S are still on the road in U.S.? I know only 2190 were imported. Lacking an estimate is there a rule of thumb percentage guess ast to how many cars typically are junked each year? After 25 years, I'm thinking there can't be many left.

Thanks!

Congrats on your purchase It looks like you found an extremely clean one. Tell us a little more about, have you been looking for a while or just sort of happen? Post some more pictures when you get a chance. As far as the number of 924s's left I could only venture and say about half are about left but could be more or less, just a guess.

about 300 S's are left.

by measuring the population of 924 S owners who posted over 3 year period between 2000 and 2003... then measuring their gradual exodus from 924 S ownership, then comparing over the next 3 sets of 3 years, and measuring their exodus in kind, i was able to write out a complex differential equation to determine the decay rate, but the .... then i wrote out a Fourier transform and plugged in the original production to disambugate the mystery of the % of 924 owners who participate on Rennlist, and just how many cars from the original production are actually left.

i am currently working out models for the 986's, 968's, 944s, esses, and Turbos.... i could show you my secret equations, but then you'd be at risk of government agents coming to your home and taking you away....

but in brief,

my findings indicate that there are between 285 and 335 924 S's in running trim,

and about 700 collecting dust....

the rest have been totalled, burned, scrapped or parted.

and of this we can be sure within a certainty of +/- 7%....

hope this helps.

So what od is saying is about half.

Sounds reasonable, seeing as the only 924's I ever see are S cars.

if 2200 were imported, take into account that about 40% of all 944's still exist(in any form, running or not) cances are, fewer than 1000 924S's from 88 are left

I molested two 924S's (a black one and a red one) taking a few parts from them before the owner junked them, back a couple years ago. So, that's two permanently off the road that I know of. The cars were pretty worn but I am sure they were salvageable. I just didn't have the room and although he tried to sell them he got no offers that were above what he could get for scrapping them.

Here's some more pics of my 924S. Not very good pics but, you can see that there are no typical seat tears. About the only thing wrong was the hood had a couple of hail dings, which I can remove with paintless dent repair. It also had some cracks in the dash.

Considering 52,000 miles and one owner with all of the timing belts recently put in place, do you think I paid too much ($5,000)

I don't know...be careful not to overestimate how many people who have one use the internet actively (post here or elsewhere) or just lurk. Or don't use the internet entirely (yes, there still are like 8 people who don't!)
