Default 2.5l to 2.7 swap

Im going to be restoring/ modifying my 87 na this summer. I want to swap in a 2.7 and then do a performance build on it. What new parts am I going to need and what can I keep, such as dme, wiring harness etc.. thanks

If your going for more performance you would be better off swapping a 16v motor into it.... The 2.7 isn't much better really. A 16v swap would be more involved but you'll get more power out of it stock then you would with a typical performance build on an 8v. Look for an s2 or 968 motor.

I think the 2.7 only had like 162 hp. The swap isn't worth 14hp IMO. Like Arominus said, swap in a 16v, or a turbo!

If you dd the car you will be 59x happier with a 2.7 than a 944s engine. More power in the 16v engine but you don't feel any of it until close to 6000 rpm. 2.7 has a ton of torque, easy to drive about with.

I'd disagree with that one, i can tell from 4k up. But i recommended an S2 motor or 68 for a reason.

The gearing in the S hurts it as well in the butt dyno. With an NA box it would feel much better than a 2.7. I plan to put my 924s box in my 944s at some point to see.

maybe my 944 is too ill...max power yo. having driven a few S cars...they dawdle and laze until high RPM and then its like you're on fire, but then you have to shift...

944S is a motor begging for a positive-displacement supercharger.

Mine really starts to hit once its wound up over 4k, but i'd kill for a supercharger. The NA motor starts to die after 5400ish, but you have to ride it out.

Is the green one the NA, black one the 924S, and red one the 944S 16v?

Green is the 16v 944S, the 924 is black and the red one is an 8v NA.

In the comments the owner says he chipped the S. Don't know that its really worth much powerwise though.

If you want to gain 14hp, find a set of euro pistons and drop them in there. 944 Online has them for $1695, but I'm sure you could find a used set somewhere for half of that. No modifications are needed.

Before a newbie to 944sNA goes & spend $1,695.00 could ligth us up on how by just droping a set of euro piston (no mods need) you will achieve a 14 HP gain.It is a claim by the seller or it's a Dino proven fact.Btw anyone here has done this & if yes did your 2.5 NA motor gain 14 HP from such a mod.

Im pretty new to the 944 so I'm not looking for a complicated swap, how difficult is a 16v s or s2 motor swap? price is a factor too so what am i looking at cost wise?

I did that swap a couple of years back and it's pretty simple. Now at ~162hp at the wheels. PM me and I'll be happy to give you the lowdown.

If your on a budget forget the S2/968 swap.A running 968 motor with service done up to date will be in the $4k-$6k range & the S2 won't be far behind.Also when doing such a swap on a 2.5/2.7 NA suspension will also have to be look at,peoples doing such a swap usually go with the 951/S2 suspension specially the 968 swap.A 968 stock has 236 HP & the 944 NA simply doesn't have the suspension to cope with such HP.Sure some will argue that you can get away with it, personally I don't believe so.Meaning more money involve in such a swap. Btw beware of the 2.5/2.7 swap ,the 2.7 is a one year only production motor & you migth find out that some parts for it are more expensive & hard to find than the 2.5,just an example do a search for a good 2.7 use head & see how many you can come up with.
