Default Blow-out narrowly avoided

I walked up behind the S2 Saturday and noticed a not so slight bulge in the r-rear. I wonder how far I would have gotten on this.

Yeah Sam they are Conti's. All the other tires are in good shape.

Yikes! Had a blowout on a BFG commercial tire on my F250 once, wasn't especially fun and tore up the bodywork (tire was pretty new and truck just toted a racebike so nothing heavy). Nice job on catching that before things went sideways.

I would say to the scene of the accident.

But seriously good catch. How old and how many miles are on it?

I'm guessing busted belt, would a warranty cover that?

Many tire companies have warranties for defects like that. Sometimes they are "secret" warranties.

It wouldn't hurt to have a Conti dealer look at it. Be nice to them. Honey attracts more bees than vinegar.

Good thought Darrell. I didn't even think of that. Oddly enough, I send back all of my cracked cymbals to Paiste or Zildjian "with a nice letter" to recycle the metals and they will usually send me a new cymbal. Why not tire companies!

Ditto the thought. You never know but in this economy it seems to be becoming more rare.

I think I'd send the pics and history to Continental Customer Service and see if there's a recall on this tire or anything they can suggest as a remedy. I had a Zodiac (inflatable rubber raft) that started coming delaminated while cruising around Puget Sound and they had me send them the id plate along with a section of the delaminating fabric and they sent me a new, latest version of the Zodiac for $200. Maybe Continental will be likewise understanding. Worth the try.
