Has anybody ever had their tranny seals leak after changing the fluid?
Having just had to replace a steering rack after a fluid change , I'm gun-shy now... got a manual trans. Want to change the fluid. But what if it starts leaking??? It's not leaking now.
Just want to know if it's a common occurrence...
TIA

the way the tranny is built there is no reason to believe that it will start leaking. I have rebuilt a few of these trannys and am working on my third. (my trubo's ) the syncros do get worn out so change that fluid. you should be a-ok!

It is changed. Went very easily. God I hate the smell of that stuff, it won't come off my hands, my nice hands, gollum, gollum.
The stuff that was in there was no longer honey colored, more like tea, But no water in it, and no metal filings.
2 quarts came out. 2.5 quarts went in. Hmmm.
When I put the plugs back in the tranny, I used teflon tape, per Tabor's or Rib's suggestion. Seemed smart. Of course the rest of the roll of tape is trashed, at least for purposes of drinking water supply, 'cause there's hypoid oil all over it. Sigh.
Wonder if the new oil will add a little oomph? Less drivetrain resistance. Must test! NOW!

Andrew...your car looks great. My 85.5 N/A
currently has 15in Cookie Cutters, and I want
to replace them with Cup Wheels like yours.
They llok great and would keep it all Porsche
Nice job

JohnL,
Cups look nice on all 944's.Be aware that 85.5 is an old offset car. These italian made clone wheels are very heavy and i have heard several bearing failures reported after Cups have been installed to old offset cars. Porsce does not make themselves Cup wheels suitable to 85.5

Thaddeus,
I love the color. At first i wasn't impressed but i saw it at night and then had to drive it home from New Mexico. It was all dirty by the time i got back to California. Now i wouldn't change it for the world. now it is up to you to change out the wheels and give it that brand new car look. I get asked all the time what year my car is a 97, 98? Nope! it's an 87! I love that!

Yes, I am mulling over which wheels to put on there. I really like the ones that are on there, but they are kind of dated.
Also, it would be nice to run something lighter.
Scheduled for 2002...
Cheers
