Default 88 924s body conversion to an 88 944? help a newb!

Hey I recently bought a 88 924s that needs a little bit of work. Along with all the repares it needs it needs a new paint job bad, and slight body work. So I was thinking and wondering how hard it is to put a 88 944 body on it? If any of the body mounts are in the same spot or if alot of work it involved in making the 924s have just a little wider body look. I have been trying to do some research but didnt find much, but alot on making it a cerrara body style....but I like the 88 944 body style better..

Any tips? and how hard will this really be?!

The bodies are nearly identical. One key difference is the style of transmission mount - the 924S has a superior design, but either transmission can be used in either body if you have the appropriate mount.

Sell the 924... buy a 944. There are tons of them out there.

By the time you finish buying the fiberglass parts, get them shipped to you, mount them properly, prep for paint, get a full spray, buy early offset wheels, get new tires... you will far and away exceed the cost of simply finding a decent 944.

Cheapest option is just to enjoy the narrow body shape as it is.

I considered this option when I started shopping for another 944 when I returned from Iraq. I liked the way the 924s retro interior looks.

But keep in mind in addition to body panel swapping you will have to increase the width of your suspension IIRC.

Enjoy it for what it is, I loved my 924s. The look grows on you and the car is lighter for it as well, so its a little bit faster than the same year 944.

You can still stuff 205/55/16's under the thing on 16x7 rims.

If you are good with a welder it can be done, the rear 1/4's are going to require a ton of work. The rest of the job would be mostly just bolting off 924 stuff, and bolting on the 944 parts.

Don't know your location, but if you happen to be near Charlotte, NC I have almost all of the parts you would need for the swap, and would let them go cheap.
