Post Porsche 944 VS E30 BMW's

OK guys, I don't mean to start one of those lame Porsche versus X, but I need some help here.
I recently purchased a 1988 BMW 325ix for the winter while my 1984 944 sleeps. The BM cost me half the price of my 944, and seems to be a great overall car. Yes the 944 kills in exterior looks, but the BMW has a beautiful interior, nice gadgets, very peppy engine and sharp handling (not as good as 944 though). I am starting to think about selling the 944 and the 325ix and pick up a 1987-1990 325is. It seems as though the Porsche is more expensive to maintain than the BM, and I'm starting to feel that BMW is offering more for the dollar. Yes 944 turbos are another story...but I am just comapring stock 944NA's with stock 325i/is/ix whichever.
Can someone who has owned both vehicles shed some opinion here. I don't want to loose faith in my 944 especially after putting a new clutch and transmission and more in the last 250km!!!
The only downfall on the E30's is their insurance prices are higher than the 944.
What do you guys think?
Please any feedback would be appreciated. Feel free to bash either car with some backups though
Thanks so much
Mike

Why sell the 944 and the 325ix for a 87-90 325is, you already have a BMW in that span of years, I would go for something newer personally and they just look so much better. I have a 635csi and that thing ain't cheap to maintain.

I am a die hard BMW fan. My parents had a '91 525i that was the best car, bar none, that I have driven. Pep, comfort, style. Now they have a 2002 330IX Sport. This car rips it up, and is simply gorgeous. Both cars are Alpine white with Grey leather. The 330IX has burlwood that looks like you could reach into it.

I almost sold my 951 before it burned to buy a 2001 330IX sport.

Unfortunately it burned and the deal did not happen. It's a good thing for me since I love my 951, and I sure do love the rush of some 300hp.

I have a 1998 BMW 328i sedan and love it. Great handling, great torque (really impressive low end torque), and only 24000 miles.

I like the styling of the old boxy Bimmers, too.

To me, Porsches are the true collector's items. But Bimmers are great cars too.

My other car is a 1990 325I and I agree that it is a very good car, everything is solid, well made and easy to work on (nothing on my 87 951 seems easy to work on). IMO the E30's do look a bit dated now whilst the 951 retains classic good looks. The motor in my E30 is as strong as ever but the suspension has gone a bit soft - other than that it makes a great second car.

Both BMW and Porsche make great cars. I have a 98 BMW 540I and love it. If I were you I keep your BMW that you have now enjoy it in the winter and enjoy the Porsche in the summer. One last thing I also have a 1978 320i that has over 400,000 miles on the original motor. Sure it does not run perfect but it still runs. My point is BMW and Porsche are among the best cars in the world and if you have one of each count you self lucky.

Thanks guys.
The reason I'm not going for a newer BMW is cause there are many on the road, insurance is high, and I am young Therefore, I gotta stick to affordable entry level german cars dating back to the eighties.
I'm gonna keep the 944 for now, and see what offers I get on the 325ix this week. If you guys are interested, I'll keep you posted.

By the way, how much is my 944 worth.
1984, 129000km, red, manual, skirt kit, new timing belt, tensioner, balance shaft belt, master and slave clutch cylinders, new clutch (Sachs), and finally, a rebuilt transmission. All the repairs done in the last 2000km. Oh yeah and touch ups done to make paint perfect.
How much should I put this in the paper for?
Thanks again,
This forum rocks!

Probably ~$4,000, but prices vary by location.

I own a 95 3 series, it's fast, has a throaty growl and the insurance isn't terrible on it.

I'm also a young driver, and I picked up an original 83 944 with 83k on it and it's in the shop right now, so for the time being, I'm happy tearing it up in the bimm .

Btw, mike -- did you replace the clutch yourself or take it somewhere? I was just quoted 2700 for a clutch replacement

What about a e34 530 or 540i.

I just swapped my 84 944 with over 200k on it for a 530i. So far it seems really nice. It eats the highway miles comfortably.

edit : didnt see the thread was so sold .
