sorry for a first post mini thread revival but i think i'm in a pretty good position to reply to this
I've just sold a pretty heavily but sensibly modified e30 to get into a 944 turbo. on the e30, pretty much everything was done that you could do without spending $20k+ on it. 2.7 litre stroker, lots of head work, springs shocks bushes sways and strut bars, properly designed extractors and exhaust, blah blah blah. everything. the 944 turbo STOCK does pretty much everything better than the e30 ever did. it's faster, it rides better, it goes around corners better STOCK than the e30 ever did modified, it's quieter, with the rear seats folded down you can put a hell of a lot more stuff in it, it uses about the same amount of fuel.
the cons are the turbo lag but meh, i can live with that, and the maintenance is going to be a bit more but hey, that's what you need to accept if you want to get into a nice car and think about modifying it.
as for the e30 m3, it's nice but they're slower than my e30 was, the handling is good but i reckon a 944 could be made to handle better fairly easily. they do make a ridiculously good noise though!
i still love e30's, they're always going to be a good car because they're just so much damn fun. but the 944 craps all over it imho

LOL last post was only a week ago! i'm not reviving something that old!
on the turbo e30 swap, i'd be finding out how far they went with the turbo set up, if it's just a bolt on jobbie i wouldn't go there but if it's a full built engine that may just be a different story. it's all about getting someone else to do the expensive part first!

Well Afro guy check out e30tech.com; they've got a decent e30 board. Another good board to possibly motivate someone to (rid their 944) to get a e30m3. check out s14.net, if u want to research their potential. I too still wanna get one of the e30m3s.
I know a dude that has a e30 325is that eventually became a 335ist. sorry about the numonics but basically its a e30 chasis with a 1980s 635 motor and five speed trans pushing like 10psi. I don't have any numbers but I need to give him a ring and ask if he wants to make a vid.
Sorry about the cr#ppy typing I'm on a iPod. LOL
