Default Who Is THE BEST in USA 944 & 951 & 968 Service Shops

We have all purchased parts from excellent speciality parts suppliers for our cars. Those are companies like Paragon, 944 Online, RennLine, Larts , or the local Porsche dealer .

But who would you call if you needed the BEST service shop(s) for our cars in the USA . I am speaking of both knowledge and experience of these cars, and in terms of service quality for our front engine water cooled Porsches.

There are a lot of well recognized 911 shops . I suspect many of those might turn up on this list as well. But in some cases dedicated and conscientious service for our cars is much less available than for 911's.

I know that a lot of you guys do a lot of your own work. But there are jobs that an experienced Porsche technician can do better and faster than we can .

So who do you think and why ?

For those times when you just have to them .

Not Dougherty Automotive in West Chester. Have removed things that were installed wrong, and put them back in wrong, and replaced parts that I 'fell for' that didn't fix the issue I was inquiring about, and lowered my overall system vacuum when they were done...

In DFW for repair it's Sean Ratt's and for parts it's Roger Tyson, Why? Sean is honest and only charges for hours worked. No upcharging for parts that Roger got at the best price available. Together they make owning a 928/951 affordable for me. Everybody in the 928 community knows them. I highly recommend them both.

Faster - maybe. Better? I doubt it.

However, there are a few shops that have turned out some competitive 944 race cars over the years. Including: Mantis, Racer's Edge, Vision and Auto Edge.

There has got to be things they see all the time and do better than the man who sees it once or twice.

Of course I am am old school. With 30 plus years in frontier oil and gas drilling and develpments all over this planet it gives me a grin when the young guys with a year under their belt think they can do this "better".

In my area (South FL) I can recommend Eric at Foreign Auto in Riviera Beach, Doesn't overcharge and fits your parts if you have them if they are not of a dubious make. Bill at All European in Tequesta is reasonable and does great work. He used to be chief mechanic for Hurricane Racing, the other mechs there are not that experienced on Porsche. Bill at Autohaus in Stuart is a PCA instructor but the shop isn't open anymore for regular work, just has race cars in there. Orbit Racing is an excellent shop and race team but tough to schedule work with them, always busy. Xtreme Cylinder Heads in Palm City does absolutely the best head work I've seen, they could build you a head from scratch if you wanted. CCW wheels just a little north of me can build you wheels in any offset, width, size or lightness and their quality is up with the best, prices are very good for a forged set. No affil with any of these.
