SUNROOF - HELP!!
Recently the 2 steel "hooks" that latch the sunroof down and raise it open are not functioning. Because of this I can not drive the car past 50mph because the roof wants to fly off the car. Normally, to unlatch the hooks you'd hit the sunroof button with the car off and the key in the first ignition setting then you can remove the roof. Unfortunately, the hooks are always in this retracted position and the roof is not latched down to the car. The sunroof motor works fine. I'vr taken the panel off and exposed the motor and mechanism but cannot figure out the problem. There seems to be alot of extra steel cable as it "loops" the slack. The motor works in both ignition settings. I've tried to manually alter the amount of slack but not worjking, any ideas. I can't drive it this way. Many thanks in advance.

Motor works but no Movement on the arms? sounds like your arm gears are striped. I would open up the two lift housings behind the sunnroof and check them. They are pretty flimsy and made of cheap material. But they are cheap in cost too. About $8.95 Hope that helps

You should be able to manually tighten it into position by moving the arms/cable until it doesn't push up. The same happened to mine and that's what worked. p.s. I had relay problems and the damn motor would run when I accelerated???

2coupes,
I think there is a relay that does engage the motor when either you accelerate or hit a certain speed. It does this until the roof latches to prevent The problem Alex is having. I'm not 100% about this so if someone else knows more, please chime in.

Thanks Bob, I have all new relays(actually used) plus the cable and motor to install but that car is in CCCCCCold storage, so I won't be into it until it's warmer in NH,battery is out etc. Appreciate the info though. Mines not flappin'as above but it was til we did it manually. Jim p.s.there is a relay in the front that senses the whole process, and four others in the system I hear.

The previous owner removed the two micro switches located at the top of the motor bracket in the rear. I have replace the switches, but do not have them mounted correctly. Would some one please post a picture of how these mount for me.

Dont have a picture but this was of great help to me
Parts:

Switches are pos no 45. The top one is the one with the three leeds on them.
Wiring:

The wiring diagram matched mine so should match yours as well.
Position of the switches was found by trial & (a lot of) error.
To start with, set them somewhere in the mid of the slotted hole, open / close the roof and see if the roof is closed and cant be lifted by pushing from the inside.
Move the switches and try again till you are satisfied.
Take Care
