Question Oil Drain Plug

Just got an 83, 944 to use as a DE and track car. I was going through the routine maintenance items and noticed when I drained the oil there was not a crush washer on the drain plug. I thought this was unusual but the plug surface seems to be beveled and mate with the pan and does not leak. Also the torque value is 44 ft-lbs which seems high for a crush washer. I am wondering if there should be a washer or not.

Hi Ted-

According to my Parts and Tech Reference Catalog, there should be a crush washer with your car. I always get a new one when I go get oil filters.

The crush washer is required. Part# 900.123.118.30

Also, the factory torque spec is 37ftlbs.

Here's a pic for reference:

Good luck with your new track car, and welcome to Rennlist!
