Default Tire Sizes

Hey guys looks like I'm going to need tires soon so I figured I would get them on my larger wheels, only have 3/32s on my current (less in some spots). I was wondering if these sizes would work well, looking for a decent fat size in the rear and not to fat in the front (depowered rack). Here's the sizes I was looking at:

Rims: Tires:

17 x 8 225/45/17
17 x9 255/40/17

Thanks for your assistance.

if you really do have a 8" wide front wheel, i would suggest:
17 x 8 245/40/17
17 x 9 255/40/17
this will give you a better grip balance, the only reason why most people have 255 rear and 225 front is because we end up useing wheels staggered for our rear engined cousins. the 944 turbo cup cars ran 245 front and 255 rear, to put things into perspective.

I'm running those sizes on my 86, they are the factory recommended for 944's and they work well. I also have a manual rack with a larger steering wheel (the bigger factory one) with an eccentric hub. Still tough at parking speed but bearable. Advise you get a fresh alignment, there is a different castor setting for 17" wheels. Also get the upgrades spindle castor eccentric listed below for peace of mind. I also fitted 87+ hubs and spindles too as I'm a belts & braces person.

I have 245/40 on my 9" rears and 225/45 on my 7.5" fronts.

I found that this width setup along with -2* camber eliminates any rubbing.

When I ran 255/40 rear and 235/45 front, I had lots of problems with rub when taking hard turns or bumps especially with passengers.

Hey butters where were you rubbing, at the fender or the strut?

At the fender. They were toyo proxes ra1 slicks, which I feel run big because they seemed bulging on the rims, as if they were the biggest size that would fit.

Ohhh I forgot to mention I'm lowered around 1.5 to 2"
