Exactly! At eagles canyon there was an Rx7 with a V8 swap that would run past our 944 like we were standing still! Thankfully he broke a lot, but had they been reliable, they would have easily won the race!

Thought you guys would like an update. Some fellows came over on Saturday, and we managed to get the car off the trailer and onto the lift. One front wheel is seized up as are both rears (because of a seized parking brake). We ended up making "slings" through the wheels to lift the car up, then drove the trailer out from underneath.
First test was to put a wrench on the crankshaft - it turned over! So we drained the oil and changed the timing belt, put a battery in it, disconnected the gas tank and put a fuel line into a 5 gallon gas can... and "click", "click".
Beat on the starter for a while with a hammer, and got "RRrrrr", "RRrrrr".
Didn't start up though... With some starting fluid we got a few coughs and sputters. Further investigation shows the fuel pump is as "dead as Dillinger".

Van,
Did you happen to catch the change in the rules from 2012 to 2013?
From the list of “APPROVED BASIC $500 CARS”:
2012
2013
According to this, it almost seems like they have given the green light to the 944 turbo
