Default steering wheel height adjustment

I have a '88 951S. Is there a way to adjust the height of the steering wheel? I really liked the height on the early 944's. thanks!

Nope. It's fixed in place.

You can fit a spacer, or a quick release hub or a momo hub & wheel. All those will raise the wheel but also bring the wheel out further from the dash.

Someone makes a MOMO spacer that raises the SW about 1". Pelican maybe??? It has a positive offset so to speak.

You could put it on upside down to lower yours the same amount.

I am 6'3", keep thinking about buying one for mine to raise my wheel.

That's the one that offsets the steering wheel right? I looked into that too, but it seems kind of awkward when the wheel has to turn more than one full turn. I wish there was an easier way

Don't the earlys have a super low wheel? I tried to sit in a buggered up 83 and I could barely fit my legs around it. Though to be fair the seat was jammed up and I couldn't push it back.

I have an '83 and I'm 6'2, it took some getting used to but if I keep my legs open I fit. Would be nice if it was an inch higher though.

I got an adaptor from rennbay(I think, may have been pelican) that lifted my Momo wheel about 10mm. It was enough so I could see the top of my gauges properly. You could use that upside down, as suggested above but whether that's enough for you I don't know. The fact it is eccentric really doesn't make any difference really as you just don't rotate the wheel that much when driving. Parking maybe but it shouldn't be an issue driving

I added a few extra shims where the steering column bolts to the body of the car. You'll have to loosen the intermediate bearing and realign the column, but it's easy.

Indeed, this works well for a few Cm's. I used some flat bar stock. Dropped the wheel closer to my crotch.

It would be interesting to see if any VW tilt systems from early 80s could be made to work. Rennbay recently turned me on to the VW control arms that directly transplanted to my '83 manual rack. You never know.
