Default REAL Porsche Values 951 944 968......

I want to start a post to get feelers to what our cars are really fetching in today's market and track where values have been. So can you post some details about recent transactions to help the masses truly assess the market?

Let's keep this focused and only post on transactions. No, "dude, you got taken on that car," banter.

Here is an example [loosely based on my purchase back in 2001]

Model: 951
Year: 1986
Color: Zermatt Silver
Price: $8600
Venue: eBay located in NY (or friend, classifieds, dealer etc...)
Transaction date: 03/01
Details: bought the car sight unseen, no PPI, lots of leaks (oil and vacuum), no maintenance history, no accidents per Carfax
Factory Options: nothing special (i.e. LSD, sunroof delete)
Mods: bone stock

ebay motors has recent "completed" car listings-sold & not sold.
Bottom of page left.
Must sign in to view.
Not perfect but historical values mean little in todays market.

Purchased '88 India Red with Linen 8-valve n/a in April 2011 for $1,700 from local Craigslister.
225k showing on broken ODO with new TB, rollers, belts, fluids..
Car had just passed Virginia safety inspection and even the A/C worked but needed R134 due to expansion valve leak. Driven 25k and totally enthralled..

Seller assisted ( actually I watched as he did all the work) to replace oil cooler seals, control arm and sway bar bushings, wheel bearings, F&R rotors and pads, and he passed onto me over 20 years of service records.

The top was ripped almost the entire length, the clear coat was coming up, I didn't like the color, the PS was inop, it needed belts, the seats were hard and shrunken, I had tried to sell it for 4 months and the only offer I got was for 3k, the radio barely worked, and it was the middle of December. The car needed a lot of work to be a serious DD or to even be sold as a 6k car.

My parents didn't let me take it to college and when I came home for winter break they made me get rid of it the second day I was home (December 17th). I'm happy I finally got rid of it. I'm not so happy about selling it to a total scumbag. The water pump let go on the drive home for the guy who bought it. I guess he felt a bit shortchanged but it's a risk you take when you buy a 21 year old Porsche, and he still got a good deal.

I saw it on the CU campus in March with some girl driving it. I have no idea what she paid for it. The flipper I sold it to plainly misrepresented it in every way. It will be interesting to see when it hits the market again. I'd bet it's going to be driven until the belt breaks or something like that. Sooner or later it's going to be on here in parts.

It's kind of like those parts I gave you; I could have kept my storage unit and sold them down the road but it would have cost a lot more to hold onto than to give away the good stuff and scrap the rest.

Ah I see, I seriously thought about the car when I saw it posted. I also saw it come up again for like $6k IIRC. I still have a few of those parts you gave me, alot of it got donated again to locals. Thanks again!

Thanks for your service!

Another thing about the cab: nobody ever gave me any crap about owning a 944 which seriously surprised me, but everyone from my 911 friends to my ricer friends gave me **** about owning a cab. If it was an S2 Coupe I'd still have it even if it had all the other shortcomings. And yes, their disliking of cabs is mostly justified.
