Default Friend just bought 1987 924s

I need to know some info on the motor and info in general information. It sat for 9-years has 44k on the car. He has given me a motor code of 44105250 GR if this makes sense. Is this an interference motor or the same motor as the 944?

Thanks

Same engine as the 944.
Immediately change the timing belt, balance shaft belt, rollers, and water pump.
Replace all the underhood rubber fuel lines.

Be very cautious until you get fresh tires on there.

Is this an interference motor or the same motor as the 944? Both.

Thanks, that was what I thought 1/2 the motor of the 928! Wonder if the porken timing tool will work for the cam timing. What is this car worth he paid 1,200 but paint is faded dash cracked but the rest of the interior is like new. I am suggesting full maintenance, tires possible caliper rebuild, fuel lines belt pump etc before he even starts it.

Great deal, can't go wrong with that price. Plans for the car sound good. Once that's all done, things will fall into place for that 924S.

Usually a 924S that sat for 9 years will have major engine/electronic issues the PO did not have the funds to fix. Unless a CarFax can verify the 44K mileage, broken odometers are standard and only show 5 digits--it could be 144K+ driven between 1987 and 2003 when parked.

I may be mistaken if you tell me the car was kept covered in a climate controlled garage..

Even as a "project" the car has no value.

Default Update after 9-years sittinf

Finally got car running but have a couple of issues.
Hard to start cold when warm idle is erratic. Fan runs constantly Ned to disconnect the battery to have it shut off.
I need to check the Temp-II sensor and ACV valve any other area to check?
I will smoke it and verify fuel pressure the balance belt whines a lot maybe too tight.
Looking for a pin out of the DCM to test inputs and any feedback to help get this running correctly.
All new fuel components and rebuilt Injectors, new electrical components and front end of motor.

good luck with your project.

I am about to buy an 87 944S, blk/blk. add a 'remora' to run with my shark.

very good cosmetically, 107K miles, EXC leather interior. guy is second owner, car developed some driveability issues and then stopped running. no sound from fuel pump. had developed arthritis and not comfortable driving, so decided to sell.

so after refreshing pretty much everything on my 928, needed another project.

Default Update 1/29/2013

We have it running, I found out owner washed the tank with water and it took a while to get rid of the moisture. That said, the idle is rough, car starts up fine and runs good. I have replaced all the related fuel components and had the injectors rebuilt.
Could this be a balance shaft adjustment, we followed the instructions on Clark's garage and believe we got the gears in correctly and set up as described. Can anyone shed any light on this?
Also looking for a headlamp motor and any help on the oil pressure connections going into the pod.Low oil pressure lLamp is on no pressure on the gauge new sender tested for low pressure, it is good.
