Default Cooling Fan Problem; Car Overheating

My fans aren't coming on. I can jump the switch and get them to but otherwise nothing. I've had it up near the top line and had to shut down because of it.

I replaced the thermofan switch and the problem persists, all of the easy stuff tests out ok.

I've deleted my A/C, but is there a way I can still get at least one fan to come on so I can safely drive and sort this issue out?

Have you checked the relay and the resistors?

Personally I have a similar issue and have put in a thermo fan bypass switch as a workaround.

It is just a relay and a simple switch to get it to work

clarks garage said if the fans turned on via jumper then the relay is fine

if the ac switch is still on the dash and powered, turning it "on" will start the fans

If you've eliminated the thermofan switch and the relay it's probably the resistors. You can just bypass them, disconnect both wires from resistor and connect together. Do the same for the second resistor if you want to run both fans. Fans will only run run full though.

You have an '87 I guess? Therefore your thermoswitch should have three connections on it. When you say jumpered, which ones did you jumper? You should be able to turn on the low speed and high speed operation right from the switch. This should be easy to diagnose.

They went into slow speed via jumpers but not fast speed. I cracked open the fan relay and there were some singed bits that resoldering didn't save so I went ahead and ordered another.

However while tightening down the new thermoswitch I busted my radiator (just my luck). Anyone have a cheap radiator? Are the ports the same on the 951 radiator as the n/a? I know one is longer but I can find the bracket I'm sure.

Well, got a new radiator in (after getting a leaking one with my first purchase)

New thermoswitch (85c)
New fan relay just in case
Resistors both test correctly

And yet the fans will not cut on unless I flip on the a/c switch.

Any way to know if the thermostat could be causing this? I don't see why it would have chosen such a ****ty time to mess up but it's just about the only thing I can think of. All the pipes coming from the radiator are pretty hot.

Yeah I've been over that about 30 times

Is there a way to force the heat on manually? I'm going to try making 100% sure I've got all the air out before ordering another thermostat and wasting more money on a **** car.
