Default Simple air filter inquiry

I ordered a Mahle (oem supplier) air filter for an NA from Pelican, but I have a turbocharged 944. Unfortunately, I just can't use this brand new NA filter!

Can anyone ship a turbo (1986-1989) filter that they have laying around to Calif? Please pm with offer, brand, and age of the filter. Not interested in K&N.

Thanks!

On another note, there's a snorkel-bypass hole before the filter. It looks like it allows the engine to breathe if the snorkel becomes clogged.

What else would it be for?

Does anyone block this bypass hole, knowing their snorkel isn't clogged?? I bet it sucks in a lot of hot air engine due to its location and hinders performance.

The hole is for a breather hose which should attach to the timing belt cover.
#4 in the picture.

A side note. The hose is not straight like the picture kind of shows. It has a bend in it.

The cap off a can of liquid wrench or some auto store degreaser fits that hole perfectly...

Ok nice. Why does that tube go into the timing covers? Cooler air there?

I believe it is to vent the timing belt area. Back when the 964 was first introduced, Porsche kept having the small belt wich turned the second distributer brake. Their solution to fix the problem was to vent the area.

951 oem filters are getting hard to find. Actually there is only one company which has fabricated filters for several brands. I just found out Mahle/Mann is no longer available. Parts store's web based system claimed that manufacturer has ended the production. It's odd, but same manufacturer still makes it under brand Knecht. I ordered severel filters, should get them during August.

Is there a general consensus that K&N is not to be used? Does it not flow more than stock paper?

Yes, it allows debris to pass. Paper filters are best. Just what I've heard.
