Yep, that is the symptoms - the fuel pump works for a short time, then quits... That is fairly normal fuel-pump failure routine.

Keep the jumper in, then drive it - when it dies, see if you still hear the fuel-pump.
Yep when it shut off the pump was running intermittently, looks like you nailed it Joshua. Tow truck on the way. Gonna cost me $125 for a 65 mile tow (extended family owns the truck). Sitting in a shell station eating pulled pork sandwich and having a Guiness. No Autozone in Jackson has the fuel pump on the shelf. Will swap out one from the '83 parts car in the morning to see what's what and go from there.

I've been ok - just a lot going on at the moment... Fathers been in the Hospital for over 30days now. I replaced the clutch in the 951. Broke a finger doing it (don't get caught with your finger in-between the bell-housing and the torque-tube..). Oil-seal on the oil-cooler went on the 944NA, so I've got the entire top-end torn down (I figured it was a good time to do a head-gasket, timing belt, ect). I should have it back together this weekend, then I can finally test the 944NA MAF properly. I also put together a 944/951 DME logger, which reads all the data from the DME:

And I've got a couple other things to finish... Hopefully soon!

I thought I would post a couple of follow ups to my adventure Thursday night. Maybe it will help someone else next time.

After I got the word here it could be the DME/Fuel Pump relay I finally started thinking half way straight and checked out Clark's.

http://clarks-garage.com/

Tried the paper clip trick.

and the three way jumper (already had a two way so was just a matter to get a little freaky and do a three way.

For the three way make sure you put them in in this order:

87, 87b then 30.

So I don't have another fuel pump to try out, and the more research I do it seems like the FPR (fuel pressure regulator) might be the culprit. Ordered one through Autozome should be here today gonna swap it out and see if that makes her happy. If not will order the fuel pump through Ebay. Also, there is a strainer in the fuel tank I paln to flush out, didn't knwo until now there was one.

Here are some pics from Clark's showing the location of FPRs on various models.

Could be, will find out this afternoon I guess. But Clark's says the fuel pump usually go out do to another problem like a bad FPR. Either way, using the whole experience to get to know my fuel systems better.

when my pump went....the car ran rough but when I would touch the gas pedel it would die.

Fuel pump ran (eg: made noise) but was not pumping enough pressure to operate the fuel system properly.

Picked up the FPR from autozone, $67.00, 24hr order. It comes with a 1 year warrenty. I know, I know chances are it will last alot longer than that....usually. But I could have gotten a bad one, yep that never happens from a parts store right??? Besides I drive my car ALOT and in a year it will probable get another 24,000 miles put on it.

So I have decided to FINALLY start marking my replacement parts with dates and a hint where I got it from. Will make it easier to match it to paperwork later.

Install only took about 10 minutes, Just make sure put a rag under it before removal.
