Default on the side of road...advice welcome 944 brothers

Yep my '86 na finally let me down guys. It keeps shutting off like I have no throttle. After waiting a minute it fires right back up makes it say another mile then shuts off again. Engine runs but no throttle. Have swapped out ignition relay x with spare same story.

Any advice welcome guys.

Michael

I'm a bit confused, the motor is still running but when you push the gas pedal nothing happens or the motors dies completely?

No engines runs as in 'deisels' to a stop then no joy. After about a minute fires right back up.

Yes, three male spade terminals and a little bit of wire in a 'Y':

Thanks man. Have tried both the three way jumper and the paper clip trick on Clark's and same story. Looks like I may have to admit defeat. Gonna give it time to completely cool down and then try again.

Anyone have a beer? Oh wait there's a Exxon across the street. No worries hell could be back in Iraq with a broke down Hummer.

It does sound like a fuel pump, or the filter is extremely clogged...
I would also loosen the fuel fill cap, just in-case there is a vacuum in the tank making it harder for the fuel pump (I've seen this happen before, though not on a 944/951).
Another possibility is the ignition coil is overheating.

Been there mate. Breaking down state-side is much more preferable

I don't think it could be a bad fuel pump I hear it run when I jump the leads. Replaced fuel filter when I put her on the road. That was 14 months ago but I don't think it could be f@&$ that quick.

No doubt I've been in worse places dude. Hey I have a Heineken and listen to Shawn Hanity on my phone. This too shall pass.

Any other ideas guys?

Throttle position sensor? Mine would idle fine but nearly stall as soon as I pressed the gas. Replaced the TPS and all is well.

I was going to suggest the tps or MAF, bad signal or no signal. Good luck..

Yep, that is the symptoms - the fuel pump works for a short time, then quits... That is fairly normal fuel-pump failure routine.

Keep the jumper in, then drive it - when it dies, see if you still hear the fuel-pump.

FPR. is my guess. I was able to get the car home after it began to fail, but after that, it would only start and run for a few seconds and die. Touching the gas made it die to....easy to check..

My AFM was bad causing the car to stumble/not run off idle and it was pretty random. I replaced everything and finally swapping the AFM solved it.
