Default Stripped threads for front lifting eyelet bolt

The front upper bolt for the alternator/ac bracket stripped. I had to change the early bracket for a late one because I was going to use a late alternator with the larger mounting holes. The bolts came out OK, or at least they felt OK. When I went to torque the bolts (33 lbft as per the FSM) the one with the lift eye just kept turning. That is the correct torque, right?

I would normally put in a helicoil, but since this bolt is used for lifting the engine, I was wondering if there would be a problem?

A helicoil should be ok - it is the normal repair method - actually it should provide more bite than the original threads.

A Helicol will work OK in that position as the engine would be lifted straight up or let down. You might have to use a right angle drill.

Cheers,

I have to make it the same size as before, as a larger bolt wouldn't fit through the bracket. Besides, the US system is stupid, I only like dealing with metric!

OK, helicoil it is. Thanks guys.
