Like I said before. Not a car for daily driving. Honestly, if this is the stuff you guys want to nitpick you shouldn't even be in this thread!

I agree, I'm sorry it turned into that, but use your head people and be safe out there. Remember that even in broad daylight you have to make sure those other drivers see you!

Just for reference the first thing to be removed on an "outlaw 356" is the front and rear bumpers!!

Many people here are already running modified bumpers. So not sure why people all of the sudden got their panties in a bunch over a headlight idea.

Honesty, at the point where I totally gut and outlaw my 951, which is my 10th vehicle, it will see maybe a thousand miles a year on nice summer days. In the off random chance I make it home after dark running just fogs. The odds of being stopped are low with this overall level of exposure. Even then, its probably about a $50 ticket, not jail time and impoundment. So, the risk is $50!.....

Default Gas Cap Gas Door Ideas?

Any ideas on improving or customizing the gas door/cap? The plastic door on the later cars could use a little improvement.

Time to revive this thread and get it back on track.

I've been wanting to eliminate my console for a long time. I sold the stereo out of my car and decided I'd take a look at the console project again.

This is my shifter that normally hides under the console and a leather shift boot. Would love to leave the whole thing exposed but need some good ideas for sealing off/trimming the hole in the floor where the torque tube is exposed.

I've considered a very short custom shift boot that funnels downward to let the shifter be exposed.

I've also considered making some sort of "cup" type of insert that would fit inside the oval hole down to the torque tube.

Or a kinda combo of both ideas, weld in a short skirt down about 2" in the hole, then put a shift boot from that to the bottom of the shifter.

Ideas?

OoOoOhhhh... I love that shifter/**** combo! Is the **** weighted or is it light? Care to share where you got both?

I'd really like to get a Whalen shift machine but they're stupid expensive.

Ahh I gotcha, you don't have to check... I'm looking for something weighted. Thanks though!

One issue I've found found is that 944/951 shift levers/***** can get REALLY HOT during extended track use.

So a covered **** or one that dissipates heat quickly is a good thing.

The thing is a cool mechanical looking shifter that I feel should be seen. But the reality is that for the last 7 years it's been hidden. Here is what it normally looks like.

We call shifters like that, "branding irons" in the summer in Phoenix.

Pretty cool shifter!

I made my own. It's slightly taller than oem + only944 short shift which makes for awesome shifting with closer proximity to the wheel. I put an old pool ball I had sitting around on it which I may swap out.

I too need to figure out a boot though. I think I'm just going to get a universal ebay boot and make it fit.

Excuse the carpet glue/tar matting mess. It is my current project which I realized today is going to be a LOOONG project to get rid of it all.

I plan on making my own lightweight carpet sections that will sit just on the floor and leave the tunnel and surrounding metal open sort of like this Singer:

That shifter looks better in you car then it did in mine.
I am picturing some sort of cup to cover that hole. Maybe just a short boot that exposes most of the shifter.
