Race Car
This is my number 1 favourite 944 thread of all time. Read it cover to cover 2 years ago. It has inspired me personally. My Dad just paid me a visit. I made sure my car "Wilson" was ready to drive. We drove. I drove first into the curving foot hills. I was trying not to scare him... and honestly it seemed like he wasn't a fan.
Then he asked to drive my 944 semi-race car on the way home. I said sure, but let's take this back road home. He hadn't driven a stick for 22 years.
I reprimanded him for not pushing it and not revving it higher.
"Both hands on the wheel!" "Look there's a curve, where do you want to go?" "Now where do you want to go?"
And in traffic he went to go in the slow lane. I said "STAY in the passing lane. Keep the pedal down & look where you wanna go! You can do it!! Don't go in the slow lane. YOU are in a Porsche, they are NOT".
By the second drive he was HOOKED! He said he was one of those who thought these cars weren't worthy of the badge. Now that's all changed. The steering, the brakes, the sound, the power-band... He told me this morning he was thinking last night "I should buy a..."
NOW he finally understands my obsession.
Thank you for the thread Cole & everyone else!

Race Car
Nowadays I tell people who tell me how much better their turbo'd Japanese car is or how much better the 911 is... I just say "you have to drive the 944 to appreciate it. Don't judge the car until you drive it. Once you drive it you will understand the appeal".

My last car was a very well-built 356 "Outlaw," and it was my daily driver. It was beautiful, but it made for a very bad DD, so I got a 944 S2 with the idea of apply Outlaw aesthetics to it.
Reading through this thread, people seem to be obsessed with weight and speed, and while upgraded performance is definitely in the Outlaw design portfolio, it isn't the primary goal. Stance and appearance are very important, with subtle, custom changes to the body and interior (not just interior weight-savings) being a big part of it. While a lot the "Outlaw" and Gruppe look was inspired by race mods, they aren't suppose to be race cars.
I'll also add that a roll bar (or worse - cage) in a street car is incredibly dangerous. You should never, ever drive a car with a bar or cage without a helmet; a bar or cage can turn a fender bender into a life-threatening event when your helmet-less head goes crashing into a steal pipe. They look cool, but they should be track-only.

Full coil overs, MO30 swaybars, S2 came and custom stainless exhaust.
Would it be considered an outlaw?
