Default Whelp,,,, I bought one. New 968 is at my place

Gonna go get on the learning curve. It's a 92 coupe, cobalt blue/black, 6sp. Been off the road for 6 years. I started it for a few seconds on carb cleaner and it had oil pressure. Needs a lot of work to get back on the road safe, but I'll get started and have it going in a few months.

Pics will come in a little bit.

Where's the fuel pump?

Where can I get shop manuals?

fuel pump should be alongside the fuel tank under a plastic cover. shop manuals, in the meantime check www.clarks-garage.com, the 944 has so many similarities to the 944 that should cover most of it.

Fuel pump is on the bottom of the gas tank on the passenger side. If you look down there, you will see a strap, which holds a small cover to the bottom, hiding the fuel pump.

Excellent. Found it. The fuel lines are just laying on top of the engine.

Here's a rundown of what it needs, in no particular order. I strongly believe the car was sent off for a TB and BSB job and the owner ran out of money, or time, or something. The TB is brand new, and the white lettering on the back is clear and unblemished. The BSB looks brand new too.

Missing TB cover; Pulleys off, bolts on the crank flange; fuel lines laying on top of engine; missing rad; missing lower and upper rad hose; Tires all flat, cracked; LF plastic body trim falling off; Trim welting pulled out in several sections; clasps for the visors missing/broken; Drivers seat bottom cracked, split and damaged; Radio inop; fuel pump questionable; right and left headlight motors are sketchy; dirty, paint on roof and hood blistered.

When I ran it on carb cleaner for about 20 seconds we got 4 bar on the oil pressure, and the car sounded ok, but the valves clattered a bit. It prolly has the odo gear fault, the mileage showing is 123k. I wish I knew the color. It's not prussian blue, and it's not cobalt.

Whats the backstory of why it was in this condition when you bought it?

Backstory is somewhat sketchy. I found it on a CL ad; http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/cto/3086592036.html no title, no history, seller doesn't speak English much, flat tires, lots a junk left inside. I've applied for a bonded title. It had a lien on it from 2001 for $1800. The lien holder is a shyster loan company that went BK in 2009 so that's no prob.

I've wanted a 968 for a while because I like the styling and the handling but didn't want to pay much. I can do all the work except paint, and I'll get that done once we're on the road. Looks like about $1k worth of bits unless I have a blown head gasket, and I should be driving.

Sounds like you'll be getting a big box from Lart soon.

I get my stuff from 928sRUS. Some don't know but Roger stocks and sells a significant amount of bits for the 944/951/968. Spencer, I was gonna think about having you out to Ft Worth for a few days of fun, but I think Sean and I can get through it. If we run into trouble, I may have you out for some specialist work.

Congrats, neighbor! Sounds like a semi-challenging project. Let me know if you ever want to unload those wheels.

We-e-e-e-elllll. I just made a MASSIVE discovery. Ya know how I mentioned that the seller was not very bright? I asked in my broken Spanish about any documents, history, files, etc. He just shook his head, 'noooo, neever get that, soory'. So, I go out and futz around the trunk and lift up the carpet to check the codes and viola! a large pair of FedEx envelopes with gobs of papers. History, repairs, sales brochure, including the salesmans card, and the mother lode - the window sticker!

SCORE

I was mistaken about the year, it's a 92, so it has the old rods in it, but given that this stuff is all present, that makes up for the difference. Also, I just bought a rad, fans, and some other bits for a discount. Now, someone tell me they have a timing cover and I'll be in fat city. I also found the tool bag, spare, jack and handle, and a cover for the stereo faceplate. The seller had NO clue. What an ***.

Cobalt blue. That's what I was hoping it was.

Hey, I need to come visit you and see where all my missing bits go on my car. The wheels are factory 17s, and I'll be sending them out for refurb once I get the car running a bit. What do you think of a gold color. muuuaaahahhahahhahahahahhaaa
