Car only starts when push started
So once in awhile my 944 turbo wont start, it cranks but doesn't turn over. Usually this happens if I only drive the car a couple miles and shut it off and then try starting it again. When I push start it(drop the clutch) it starts right up. Could this be the dme relay...? The weird thing is that after it doesn't start it will usually start up after sitting for a few hours..any help is appreciated-thanks

Im a bit confused on the cranks but doesnt turn over as well...
possibilities.....
1 the starter is turning but the engine is not (bad solenoid)
2 the starter is turning, the engine is turning but the engine does not start to run. (either no fuel or no spark)
3. the starter makes a noise but isnt turning (seized starter)
Now you said "Usually this happens if I only drive the car a couple miles and shut it off and then try starting it again." assuming #2 above describes your situation....it could be charge related...either the battery isnt taking a charge or the alternator isnt providing sufficient charge. I had this problem once...car would start fine...Id drive a few blocks to the store but couldnt get it to restart. There just wasnt enough power to get a decent spark while the starter was drawing current.
Id drive the car to auto part store....leave the car running....have them come out and check your battery and alternator. If they both test fine, kill the engine, disconnect the battery, jack it up and pull the starter in the parking lot and have them test it. I can pull a starter in under 5 minutes.....goes back in as fast.
